78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe(new pics 07/25/2014)

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000c cafe

Decided to start digging into the wiring on this thing, and need some input. I am guessing at some point in time this bike was running points and converted over to a pointless system. Seems to me there should be a CDI box somewhere, but apparently it is missing. There are three cut wires coming out of the left side that are bundled with three wires going to the reg/rec. I believe one is red and white, and the other is green and white, and I can't remember what color the third is. I am guessing they are supposed to go to the missing CDI box. I tried to find a decent schematic online with no luck Any ideas? I will take a pic when I get home and post it

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000c cafe

I really like the GS1000 and GS1100 bikes, one of the best motorcycle engines of all time. The GS1K will always bring you home. I think the modern Suzuki Bandit 1200 swingarm will slot right in on these bikes? Also. why the dual shocks and not just one? Esthetics I'm guessing. Cool build.
Cheers, 50gary

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000c cafe

Thanks for the positive feedback, I appreciate it :)

I figured the dual cantilevered shocks would be something different, as you don't see it everyday. Would be easy enough for me to change to a single shock if this doesn't work out, but I really like the way it looks.
I am going to have to get some new shocks, as the stockers are definitely not going to be up to the task, way too soft and bouncy. Maybe some progressives or something like that, well see.
I have benn waiting and waiting on the seat pan, apparently Airtech did not have it in stock and had to make it, hence the delay. Once I have it, I will be able to make teh rear subframe. I have the measurements for the seat pan, so i suppose I could make teh subframe with those, but i would really rather have the seat in front of me and do it that way, just to be on the safe side.
GS's are certainly stout bikes with a great motor, not too much to go wrong with them and very reliable. This is my first Suzuki, I am mostly a Honda and Kawsaki guy, although right now I am riding a Ducati:)

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000c cafe

Nice build so far and your last bike looks killer!

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000c cafe

Thanks, I sure do miss the green meanie sometimes.
Just got some clipons in the mail last night, thank you Mr Postman. Got them installed and they seem to do the trick well enough :)

Pretty cool job there! Definately something I'm gonna keep an eye on.. I think the mufflers look great, not something you see everyday, but it definately works for me!

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe new pics and progress, finally

Been a long while since I posted. Here is the bike as she sits now, basically just need to fab battery tray, install cush drive, and paint. She is a runner. Just finished up the exhaust yesterday.

ok, finally got the seat pan for the bike, so i fabbed up the rear subframe, mounts for rearsets, and exhaust hanger mounts. Also mounted the clipons. Miles to go before i sleep, but it is starting to look like a motorcycle again. sorry for the poor pictures, as my wife took the camera with her on vacation:(

The subframe is not yet finished, still have quite a bit of bracing to add, but I wanted to get it out of the garage and sit on it:) Whatcha think?

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe

Rear caliper and mounting bracket just arrived...one more thing to check off the list:)!

Re: 78 Wes Cooley GS1000s cafe

Here are some better pics for your perusal. Subframe is almost done. Just need to add a few more braces and a tray for the electronics:
