A CB360 Tracker Rookie build

Subscribed. I'm battling the cafe or tracker idea for my 360. I'll watch and learn from you. And the K70's look great. I rock'em on my cb550.

You give me more credit than I deserve. Haha!

I am still in the "I have a parts bike that I need to see if it runs" stage. I did try my hand a fabbing a seat with fiberglass. I'm going to redo it, possible a steel seat pan.

Anyway, I'm hoping that you can keep going and get me inspired to make my box 'o parts a scoot.

I'm of the mindset that if I can do it, than anyone with half a brain can too. I did luck out by having a motor that wasn't horribly abused. The fiberglass work has got me a little intimidated. I have only messed with it a few times with mixed results. If the weather allows for it this weekend, then I'll try to knock it out and post the pics.

I spent a few minutes after work playing with the foam. I cut a little, smoked a cigarette, pondered about the next cut, sanded a little, and repeat. It's not quite there yet, but a shape is starting to come into focus.

I just looked out my window after putting up my tools and saw the neighbors have decided set their yard ablaze.

Now it's time to head out for some whiskey refreshment.

That looks good, really good. I have a megaphone style muffler off a kz440. Not sure if it would fit right or not. Once you know the OD of the flange I can find out for sure.

Thanks, man. I have to work at finesse stuff really slowly, but it's getting there. Do you have a pic of the megaphone? No biggie if you don't. Should have that by Monday or Tuesday. My plan on the inner fender is to try to cut the stock inner fender down a bit and mount it. If it's too fugly, then I'm going to mount some thin aluminum on the diagonal rails where the stock inner fender clip tabs exists. There's definitely going to be something keeping the dirt, mud, and Chuck Norris whiz off the carbs.

Forgot you still have the stock tabs left. I'll see if I can snap a pic later and maybe some dimensions.

Believe it or not, I've been getting some work done on the cl. Got the frame horns welded up, and have been removing the seat tabs on the frame. Almost finished with the fab now minus the headlight, tail light mounts, and fiberglass the seat pan.

How's about you get that thing running?

That's in the works too. Intake gaskets and stator side cover gasket installed the other night. I need to clamp down the carbs, do a quick fire wiring job, add some oil, and tighten down the head pipes. Then it's go time.

I only have a smidgen of finish welds and the frame is done. Going to try and fire this weekend if possible. I'll snap some pics in the day light tomorrow.

And on with the fiberglass...

I ended up deciding to go boat style and use cloth instead of mat . I figured it would be lighter if it wasn't mounds of overlapping squares, and the idea of one smooth surface sounded like it'd be worth trying. Unfortunately, it's so windy outside that I'd do better to go sailing than start on the glass work. Sans sailboat, I decided to fight the wind and get on with it. So here's how it sits as of now (ignore my mess of a carport) after one coat of resin over cloth.

I didn't cut any slits in the cloth, so it wanted to pinch in quite a few places. I don't expect it to be smooth after one coat of resin, but it's a start. I haven't decided to pull or leave it on the bike to build it up for strength. I guess it'll depend on it's rigidity. Time will tell.

Good luck with using the one piece. I did that on my 360 and the wrinkles and folds made life miserable. I switched to chopped strand and that made life easier. And for the last "coat", I went back to the weave. But I was still fighting the folds until the end. That's why I'm thinking I might redo the seat.

I add some reinforcement in the seat area and the back, and now it's pretty fugly. There are still a few spots I want to beef up the structure, then I should have enough material to sand down to look the way I want. I'll post more pics as I progress. I was just about to get back into yesterday, but a buddy called and sidetracked me to go search for some crappie.

Two minor updates to report. As for the fiberglass, it's still ugly. I knocked down the funky stuff where the seams of cloth and resin met to form stalagmites with some 80 grit sand paper. There are some nasty low spots, so I chose a test area and slathered on some short hair fiberglass filler. I'll see what it looks like after it dries and I get a chance at making it smooth. Then I'll post some horror pictures to scare any wannabes like me away from fiberglass for good.

The other thing of noteworthiness is that my CJ header came in the mail today. Crusty. That's about all I can say. The chrome is beyond the point of no return with surface rust. That actually works out. I wanted one I could knock the crud off of and cover with some ceramic based black paint. This one should do nicely for that. If Captain Awesome wants to work out a deal for my mufflers, I'm open to that. I will require a suitable muffler replacement in exchange. The O.D. on the end of the header is 1.9ish" then necks up to 2.2ish" and then necks up to a solid 2.5". I could probably get away with stealing the muffler on my other bike (2.5"), but I have too much in that one to go in search of another for that bike. Looks like a 2" muffler would be appropriate/stockish for this one. I have a spare muffler with a ding in it from the other set, but then I'll have to have some sort of hideous adapter. Thoughts?

I'll measure what I have and see if it will work or not. I assume it will be on the smaller side though.
