Hi im in the procces of building a seat pan and thought it may be of intrest to some of you on the forum I started by making a solid former to get the correct design and then built a buck to build the seat pan of. Most of the basic forming was done with a sand bag and mallet then finished of on the english wheel Ive added some photos of the parts being fixed to the former and the original hard former as well just hope the photos up load now.
Hi thanks for all the great feed back re flugtechnik I also made a solid former as well more to get the right look than to form over it is a bit of a long drawn out process though but mine was intended for a customer that wonted a specific design and a number of the tanks and seats but I have developed a problem with my eyes at the moment and carnt do a lot of welding at the moment heres the former I made :.
Wow this looks the business. I might be coming to you later for a new seat unit as I feel mine is a little high at it's peak. Give me a while to save some pennies though!
Hi gernz thanks for the intrest the alloy I used was 2mm on the hump and 3mm on the seat part to give it some strength so there was no need for a frame to support the seat. I used 1050 h14 this is pure alloy and the h14 means it is half hard I anealed the sheet to sofen this before I started working it I use a propan torch and a 650c temp stick for anealing i dont know what numbers you use in the States to grade you alloys. Here are a couple of photos of the finished seat.
That is crazy. I have a homemade englishwheel but never had enough patience or sheetmetal knowledge to make anything really cool. Nice work. I'm jealous. 8)
Hi thanks for all the posative feed back lads the english wheel I use is one I made at home if anyone is intrested I can post a bit of a build thread on it for anyone that is intrested in making one. like anything else lots off practice and almost any one can get a decent result. The metal finishing takes a bit more to master but its down to lots of practice and the two complement each other.

Hi johnu thanks for the intrest in my projects as far as the english wheel goes I first brought a set of lower anvils and a top wheel of ebay this is a lot cheaper than trying to make these yourself for a one of. To make the frame I brought some 5mm thick steel section that was 120mm wide and 60mm deep Ill put a couple of photos on and that will give you the general idea how I started to make the frame sorry i dont have lots of photos of this build but there should be enough to give you a general idea ill post some more later if you have any questions ever post them or send me a message thanks what sort of tank are you building?
