Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hey thanks. The bike is still in mock up but yeah I plan to paint the swingarm the same epoxy silver as the frame (i don't want it to stand out). And if I use the tank in the photos I may borrow an idea from one of my favorite builds on the forum. I'll call it a kanticoy job. However I also have kanticoy's old CB 360 tank in baby blue that I may use as is. I will give it a bunch of clear coats show off the patina. Here is the kanticoy job: (hope you dont mind Kiley)

Looking nice, how close to the ground is the lower frame rails. You'll have to let us know how well you can lean into corners. I want my chop to be as low as possible with still being able to lean.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Those tanks are so cool looking. Whats the story behind the paint scheme?

Could you mount the rear fender from where it intersects the swingarm? I know its attached at the rear axle. But I mean closer up under your bum, where it intersects on the other end in the photo. That might look rad. Should custom the fender. Tail looks really hollow. Needs some attention?

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Rat400 It did get lower with the new swingarm. The kick stand is the closest thing to the ground. I may end up moving it but I doubt I'll need to. I'll keep you posted.

Curbcast, Kanticoy's paint: http://dotheton.com/index.php?topic=10392.0 its about half way down.
I don't follow what you mean about how to mount the fender. I will say that i really like the look of rear fenders slammed against the tire and that was my plan here. However, I'm def. open to ideas.
Yep, I agree about the rear of the frame being open. Too open? Well, the swingarm stretch opens it up even more. But I like it to look clean and uncluttered. I spent a bunch of time hiding all the electronics under the tank. However, I can see your point.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

heck no I don't mind man! I think that lace job would look sick on whichever tank you use! It's super easy to do, and I think it would go well on a bobber style bike. It did after all come from 1950's car customization guys. And you're welcome for the parts bro! I can't wait to see what you make of it! One man's trash....Anyway, I think the bike looks amazing with that extension on there. It's just what it needed I think to give it that bada$$ look. And +1 on the fender hugging the tire. That's the way to go...I love to see that fender bounce with the suspension on the bike. It just flows better that way. Anyway, good job dude. Kudos supreme!

That is a fookin' awesome pic. I love the rider position on that bike. Certainly not a long distance rider, but pretty insane. You know, I never asked you why you wanted the SA longer, but now I get it. Well Done. Be safe with that thing!

Are you a farmer? That's pretty cool.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Chop the stock mounting arm, & mount it where the green dot is? Dont know if it would work, looks cool?

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Lace stenciling. Right on! Im a stencil nut, done up some cool pedal bikes with stencils. Perhaps Ill borrow some of the ladys lingerie & stencil a bra on mine. haha.

No, don't do that. You'll put the damper loads right at the bending moment--meaning there is a high likelihood the swing arm will bend right there. By eyesight, the damper geometry doesn't look too bad.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Im talking the fender? Stock fender mounting arm? I didnt think itd change "damper zoning" or anything. I dont even know what a damper zone is. Just ignore that idea then.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Ya, if curbcasts idea doesnt fuck with the suspension, then I say definitely go for that. Probabably would have to brace the inside of the finder a bit to keep it from flexing and hitting the tire since it will extend a long ways from the mount. But I think that looks way cleaner, and way more custom.

btw, Im getting really into the whole bobber thing, and its all your fault! I feel like the brat/bobber style is the only traditionally american bike style that can really work for japanese bikes. No offense to anyone, but japenese based choppers tend to look forced and awkward to me.

A quick question, did you lower the front end at all? the lower frame rails appear to be parallel with the ground, but it doesnt look like you pushed the forks up.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Hey thanks guys. I see what Crubcast was saying. I think Chris was thinking he was talking about moving the lower shock points?? Not sure. But I think he was saying to remove the fender struts and mount the fender at the cross arm just in front of the tire. Kinda give it the look that it floats. I believe it could be done if a fender strut came up to about shock level just infront of the shocks. I think there would have to be two mount points. One straight accross the swingarm and the other as I said. Could be a cool idea. I'll give it a little more thought.

Hey guys, thanks for all the ideas and input. Greatly appreciated!

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Rain in the forcast all day so I got to work on the bike ;D. Got a good bit done, but since I can't weld or cut in my garage I was being chased by the weather all day. All welding is now done except for mounts for the fender. The chain length will dictate where it and the tire goes. Decided to save the fender for last.
I'll post up progress photos in a few.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Photos of todays progress:
I used the aluminum foil trick to mask for painting. Worked great. It doesn't hold up to welding though. LOL Normally I have welding leathers that I just drape over things that I don't want screwed up. Good place for them right? The only time I wear them is when I'm welding over head.

cut the front tank mount tabs and moved them. I used bolts and cut them off. I wanted the tank to sit a little taller in the front than stock.

worked on a tank bag until i broke the hole punch. Its a cheap piece of crap so I'll probably go through a couple of them before i finish it.

brake pedal painted (thanks Kiley!) and other bits including the battery box

made a new shifter and painted it up (I cut the stock one during rear set mock up on the cafe racer)

I painted the frame and started assembly. Swing arm mounted and shocks going on

Cut mount tabs on the tank

stripped the tank and made the rear mount. I welded a single bolt and placed a rubber washer under the tank. Used a wing nut. I plan to find a nice brass wing nut to tie in with the new tank colors I plan. The tank bag will cover most of this up.

New tank colors. The base color will be Dark bronze and for the stencil overlay I'm going to try antique brass.

Bike is going back together quite nicely. Body work and hopefully paint the tank tomorrow.

i still need to finish this tank bag or make a different one, but this is about how it will fit:

I took photos of the blue tank on the bike but I'll post them later. I don't want to confuse readers. i also want to get knee pads for it. I think that will throw it back a few years and help make the look. Anyhow, I plan to start tank body work tomorrow and maybe get it to paint. During down time i'll work on the chain and getting the swing arm lined up. i also need to finsih/make a hub holder bar and do the brake linkage. A little bit of wiring and that's about it besides mounting the fender.

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Zuper sexy! Good work my friend, that is a lot of progress. I think those colors that you picked out for the tank are going to look amazing together! Are you going to bring it to an auto shop to shoot some clear for you again? I ask because I used the 2k Spray Max 2-part clear in a can that I shared with you before, and it has an awesome smooth finish to it. They're only like $20 shipped online but if it costs the same to get it cleared at a shop, then nevermind lol.

I think I have the colors picked out for my future bobber project...

Re: 360 dragger/bobber brat what ever

Id find a better murse. Need a rich brown like the seat. Wrinkled & well traveled.

Id sleep with this bike.
