Brake Bleeding Woos

Alright. I got brakes AND clutch to work!

I had my neighbor Big Dave walk over and help me out. He's an older wrencher who offered his life experiences in exchange for some welding services. Together, we took off the caliper and pump the SHIT out of the brake lever until the piston was as far out as it would go. Then, we bled fluid out of the line until the piston was in far enough that it would go over the brake pads. Once we have it on the mount, we bled the lines. Then... realized that I was leaking a little fluid and I found that I didnt tighten the brake sensor down enough. Once I locked that up, FIST FULL OF BRAKES!!!!

Big Dave, a 250lb dude, shoved the shit out of the bike and it didn't budge an inch.

Next, I was just bring an idiot about the clutch basket. I had watched a few videos about changing the plates and read the manual plus many posts. The majority of them gave this "Tighten them down enough, but not too tight... just snug" comment about the the four bolts that mount the clutch springs. Well, I didnt actually tighen them down to the point where they seated. Just enough to get the basket on. I tightened them down to about 10 ft lbs. put it all back together and I was good! Took her down the street last night and everything!

Just an update to finish out this thread. Another episode of being in too deep but thankfully learning a big lessons.

I always say if you're not in too deep then it ain't no fun! If at some point during the procedure you don't say to yourself, "why in the fuck did I attempt this?" then you may as well just go home! It's those times when you learn and then next time you know. You had a leak huh.....=)

I hear ya, man. There have been PLENTY of those times during this build but that what I signed up for.

Leak and lack of experience. It made for a few fun afternoons :)
