I have access to 3 or 4 of those as parts bikes. let me know if you need anything, most of the time I can get the parts WAY cheaper than you can find them on ebay.
AWESOME! How much could you get a motor and a rear wheel for? If this thing it truely "locked up" I'd love to have spares! I'm in Richmond. Where are you? If your on the East Coast I'd probably just drive to you and pick it up.. Make a road trip outta it!
I've got a complete (more or less) parts bike here in Toronto as well. Engine is in pieces in a box (or two).
I wouldn't pay more than $100 for one in rough condition - any pics of the actual bike for sale? I paid $500 for mine but it is complete and nearly running (just needs some tuning/timing at this point).
this is the actual bike. I think I may have pissed her off. She won't respond to any e-mails now... It's just sitting out from of her house.. It's really tempting to just drive by and get it!
How's the petcock? This is a major issue with these bikes. A rebuilt / half decent petcock will fetch $70 on eBay. They're common to the larger 305cc Honda Dream and are PITA to work on. They tend to seize up regularly.
If your REALLY like the bike you could spend $200 on it. Looks like the exhaust is shot, needs tires, probably rusty tank, not sure about the petcock or electrical.
Luckily you don't have turn signals to worry about on your US model (in Canada and in other markets it was known as the C95 and has turn signals). These just add to the cost / complexity of fixing the thing up.
The Thai parts are all repro, are expensive to ship and aren't great quality. I ordered one or two things, but am avoiding those parts.
I fell in love with the bike - it's a nice little 16" wheel bike to scoot around town on. I want mine to be black ultimately and get my wife riding it.
Tell Greta to sell you the bike so you can give it the love it needs.
Avatar is your pic, and I thought the lighter was a pipe made from meerschaum, a white mineral stone mainly imported from turkey commonly seen with intricate carvings.
My 12 year old step-daughter's grandfather just bought her a 64 ca95. I'm extremely jealous! It's in slightly better shape than the one you're looking at (it runs), and he gave 500 for it.
I love the look of these bikes, and I'm gonna have to agree with Tim, do it up stock and clean if you get it. Maybe very small tweaks to it, but these bikes just ooze class and neatness when done factory.
Good luck with the old lady, if it helps I had to work on the dude who sold me my 750 for two years before he would avctually agree to sell it to me. Persist!!!
Your right... I probably would go with the "Stock Retro" feel. I do LOVE the solo seat paired with the little rack on the fender... So cool looking!
Feel free to respond to this CL and offer her anything below 50 bucks! Maybe if she is convinced that it isn't worth 500 bucks she'll sell it to me for 50!
Usually , the front part has a very visible weld line where the two halves of pressing fit together. (as you can see on pics of yours)
The rear mudguard is smooth. should probably fill the join between it and 'front' section
I love this bike, although I have never really ridden it.
I have a 305 dream which looks similar and has the lrger engine, but these bikes are awesome fun, and very light.
The engine is on the bench at the moment.
Bikes must be very cheep in the US not to warrant $500. I would jump at that price. Mine cost me $1,000 here and needed a complete rebuild.
But then these are a rare bike here, I have only ever seen one other in the flesh.
The lady still wants $400. I'm guessing as X-mas gets closer she'll be willing to come down. I would pay the 400 if the motor wasn't locked up, wheels rusted like crazy, tank varnished/rusty, dent in tank panels, exhaust rotted out, etc. etc. etc.
The only saving grace is that the frame isn't rusted and 95% of all the parts are there. It's really the motor being locked up to be honest. Not sure if it can be saved and I don't want to pay 400 for a parts bike that I don't have a motor for.
