Looks like a real POS. I guess cuz it's a Harley you can ask big bucks. Even so seems high for a bike that needs a complete overhaul.
Dealership. They know the highest price to ask and can wait until some schmuck pays top dollar for a POS. I'm sure they would restore it too at $100/hr.

I dig that thing. Never seen it before but I like it. For some reason, and call it heresy if you may, I'm really liking the "cafe'd" harleys I've been seeing lately.

Here's an oldy but goodie.

I've always wanted an old Sportster to play with. The above would be a perfect 10 if it had some spoke wheels on it.

Yep, yep... only made 2 years, very collectable. Not only does he say it's "Real" but looks to have most of the original bits that made it a XLCR. Also states he has the original fairing... Bet he gets the asking price or damn close.
Definitely collectible, but not at much more than $15 grand rebuilt and restored. That asking price is too high to get any return. I love the way those XLCR's look, but it's still an AMF.

AMF as in All Mighty F*&kup ?

No one was bowled over when that team owned HD for a while. To be fair though. There wasn't a lot of demand and the economy sucked back then.

I hear that all the time. What is the appeal of spoke wheels? They are so expensive to get right. Rims and spokes are not cheap and then they have to be laced and trued. That works out to around $400-500 per wheel and period mags go for 10% of that. It adds a lot to a professional build.

As a guy whose first job was at a bicycle shop, I love spokes. Doesn't have to make sense. :)

Let's not forget that the motorcycles were also total shit. They came out of the factory with oval bores, leaking, porous cases, and out of alignment cranks with poor tolerances. Some bikes were OK, others required repair right off the showroom floor.

Yes, the AMF years were bad, but not because of AMF. The Harley plants were building bikes with worn out machine tools. AMF dumped a shitload of money into the joint, and by the time the Evo engine, (developed during the AMF years,) was released, they had their shit together, and started putting out good machines.

You can build a fine shovelhead engine today with well made aftermarket parts, and they run reliably. The problems with the Harleys of those days wasn't bad design, it was shitty manufacturing.

The quality of modern Harleys rivals anything out there. If you spend a little bit of time walking around in a Harley showroom, you can see and feel the fine fit and finish. By contrast, look at some metric cruisers in the showroom. Tap the chrome pieces and see how much of it is chromed plastic. Do you think any of those chromed plastic pieces will survive for 40 years?

That really is a good deal, cm400's where damn peppy especially when rejetted by three on the mains and one on the pilot, add an open flowing exhaust it would roar and be pretty damn quick up to the ton.

I hear ya. I don't want to get into the great spoke debate I just thought it'd flow nicely on that particular bike. I'd never put spokes on my KZ or CX but it's something I've always wanted to try.

dude you put those shit retarded-clown tires on you're kz and you feel you can judge a motorcycle ?
like teazer said collectable

Yes I'm an expert and I know everything.

I said it looks like a POS. Just my opinion. I purchased the KZ, cheap, with those clown tires and sold it with the clown tires.

For that Cafe Cruiser feel

If I wasn't so busy, I'd actually be tempted to go and peek and maybe haggle a little.
