"Cafe Racer" such a loose term! Craigslist "Gem" of the week!

Its going to be one of those awkward moments when someone posts an add from bike "built" here.....

Maybe, just maybe instead of the "hate" here we should be looking within the newbie threads here and trying to point out errors to help them understand what they are doing wrong?
I have seen almost everything that is getting made fun of here build threads here. But in the build threads it doesnt get pointed out why? because that would be mean? or its ok to let people "learn" with their own bikes but just never sell them?

I've been waiting for it. Maybe it will be one of my bikes. I'm planning on putting all of them up for sale for absurd prices. If they sell, the sell. If they don't sell, they don't sell.

I'll be omitting the term "cafe racer."

Speaking of which, sir, when I start my build thread, would it help me get more feedback from experienced builders if I included "newb" or "first build" in the subject line?

I want to wind up with a Machine I can feel good about, and I REALLY don't want to end up featured on this thread!

newb and newbie is another odd term.
Everyone has to start some place and thats fine.
Often advice is met with a backlash of "im making it my own" or something.

But in the end its just the internet and NOTHING ever actually gets done here. Its just a place to talk and exchange ideas and BS.

A lot of people have very different ideas of what a "cafe" is, me I think its a place to get coffee

I can't wait for the day a members bike ends up here in the shit heap of a thread. In fact, I say we just beat that situation to the punch and start going through every build thread and talk as much shit as possible on everyones bikes. Which one of you guys want to be up first.

Thats the exact reason I didn't/don't want to put most updates on my bike "build". Pretty terrified of being shunned out of a thread I respect.

Don't let the few haters stop you from posting. For every negative post, there are hundreds of people that will be inspired or at least entertained by your thread and not post anything.
Plus you can learn from other peoples experiences and save yourself time, money and headaches.

Dude that rd has a ten dollar paint job and dg pipes what the hell is that guy thinking

this is a shame. Post away my brotha. Most of the bikes on this thread are not even cafe inspired or builds of any type. They are something labeled cafe completely inappropriately. like an 84 honda shadow with bags or something silly.

full seat cafe racer hahahahaha with automotive pin stripe and 2 dollar yamaha stickers what a hack

That's my point... Everyone on this thread feels it's cool to hop on their high horse and talk all kinds of shit on the bikes in these ads, which just makes this forum look like every other forum on the web. That is, full of assholes and internet tough guys.
The shame is that it's not that kind of place, but someone new to the hobby or DTT will see this and other threads like it and think "great, another place for me to get shot on by people I've never met". That's bullshit.
Whether or not most here in this thread are actively participating in a joking lighthearted manor, it comes across as a bunch of elitist fucks passing all over a bunch of bikes that belong to people they've never met.

Thats a sweet RD you found on ebay Brad ;), I bet if a guy cleaned the dirt out of the mud valve it would clear up all that smoke :)

I guess the difference is : If ur building it to sell it,have the intellectual honesty to call it what it is-a POS I threw together to make a fast buck on the cafe fad. If, like most of us, u built it because u love old bikes and live for the free time u can get to wrench- u probably aint sellin it anytime soon and u can post all the Q u want. The last one I built (86 Radian) I gave to my son so he can enjoy riding as much as I do.Im now building another Kaw and when I finish that one Im gonna give it to my sons son so he can ride with his dad.Two old bikes that will never die-plus my own 82 Kawi. When I die, it goes to my sons other son so he can enjoy riding as well (hes only 6).Pass on the history-- I think thats what we are about.bj
