always seemed strange to me that these haven't held their value like the cbx has

Water. The big Cow is water cooled and just is hard to conceal that giant rad. I can say with experience though... That thing is a torque hawg and sounds like Cow bellering for it's calf haha!

Didn't think of that tune. I'd sure take one still lol

The carburetors are quite different too. 3 "double barrel" carbs versus 6 individual. I worked on one a few years back. IMO they are a tad "uglier" than the CBX. And trust me, I'm a tried and true KZ fan. I have always liked them over the CB series. Usually had more torque from what I could find. (and feel) Plus they are cheaper :) 120bhp compared to the 105bhp of the CBX too :)))

Had a friend with one who basically stripped all the non-essentials off, had another friend who cast and machined an intake with a single 4 barrel Hitachi carb and put a 6-1 exhaust in it Never quite got the tune right, but bike was freaky fast and would just sit and burn the rear tire off. Always wanted one of the teal colored ones.Pretty bikes IMO.bj

This has my brain working overtime... we may be onto something for the home build simple EFI setup. It seems to me with the 1300 throttle body and simple ECU and electronics someone here could isolate these down to 2, 4 and 6 cylinder application.

Would it be possible to build a set of manifolds to run two of these: throttle bodies on a CB750 or even a KZ1000, the ECU seems simple and the TPS is integrated and just as simple...

Calling all FI guru's can you make it work??

Yes, very easy to run fuel injection- except for the fuel pump. I did this the first time 20yrs ago (WOW!). You can run a single or individual throttle bodies.

you can get so many throttle bodies cheaply that fit the bikes its just not a issue these days

we also use to turn a holder to convert the stock carb body to hold the injector

the only issue with fuel injection today is not components they are all readily available

its the cost to benefit that hinders a lot of its use

and to some extent on vintage bikes the increase load on the electrical system

that would mean even more upgrades

I would like to know a little more.

I can see that throttle bodies and getting the parts on is simple and maybe somewhat costly, but with some effort my guess is less than a set of CR's and then tuning them.

The part that is unknown to me is what the charging and battery capacity needs to be, I think if you run all LED for lights and maybe use two 8 cell batteries, one just for starting and lights and one for FI system with alternating charge pulses timed by a separate module like a timed event... say 30 second intervals or by voltage drop demand response with a minimum timeout.

I know we run FI on the dirtbikes and that system has to be fairly simple... 2 450 bodies on a set of manifolds a remote fuel tank with pump fed by the main tank?

The pump is simple to adapt:

What's the draw on that?

Need to find out from my buddy what all is on the 450's to power the FI on the YZ450 race bikes. Even though they are a 30+2 ride its not likely it would be designed to die... until out of gas haha!

I guess it all depends if you want your Moto to look the a science fair project or to be sleek. FI pumps sit in deep sumps, where they are covered by fuel. Most vintage tanks have a very wide, long and shallow fuel holding. The pumps run hot and burn out or vapor lock if they aren't covered. Most vintage tanks are saddle-type as well. I would suggest you use the tank from a new "vintage-style" motorcycle- CB1100, V7, Bonnie, etc. Actual just buy a used CB1100 and turn it into a cafe racer

Running a pony tank would be viable but it would alter the visuals of your vintage bike.

You did hit the nail on the head about cost. The price for a set of high performance 4-cyl carbs is about $700, another $300 for an ignition system. Aftermarket FI systems with ITBs will run about $2000 for the fuel system, ignition system, upgraded electrics, pump, sensors and ECU. These are new retail prices for both. You also need some fabrication for a cam sensor and an O2 sensor.

Very nice, other than the spray bombed plastic but hey, i do it too sometimes. Good price too. Wonder if the Tecate and the ATC250r hiding in the background are also for sale at those kind of prices
