Carburetor Rebuild - Help With Jets

Hi Guys,

I'm rebuilding my carb (first time I have done this), when installing the main pilot jet, I have done the following:

- Installed the main jet nozzle (yes it's in the proper way, I can see it protruding into the venture)
- Main jet emulsifier
- Main jet

What I am worried about is that the emulsifier is not fully seated (see pic below). As far as I can tell it is not obstructed by anything, when screwing in the emulsifier I put my finger into the venture and blocked the hole where the nozzle exits into the venture, as I screwed the emulsifier in I could feel the nozzle being pushed out, so I know they are making direct contact.

My question is, is this normal? I have not put it back in yet to try and see if it works because my carb is a pain to get back in.

Thanks in advance,
Slav

Sorry, best photo I could get for now, I know the nozzle is seated correctly, and the end of the emulsifier sits flush. It's as if the thread on it is too long..

The person that owned this bike before me has stuffed around with the carb, there was O rings missing, and the jets were way over-sized..

Problem is I would not have a clue where to find another, or the correct emulsifier.. OEM is sold out everywhere...

FYI bike is a honda GB 400, has the same carb/engine as XBR 500, so I've been ordering XBR 500 parts..

it does seem very long... in theory, as long as it's not obstructed, it should work the same... the depth where the metering jet sits shouldn't matter, but if the emulsion tube isn't stock, it's anyone's guess as to how the bike will run

That's the sort of answer I was hoping for, It was working OK before I pulled it out, so will see how we go..

The carb was leaking, and wouldn't start unless I tilted it upright, other than that, a bit of hesitation until the bike really warmed up..

Worst case, I'm wondering if I could stick an aftermarket carb in there, just don't fully understand all the technical implications, I've been warned that it may take countless hours of changing jets to get it tuned correctly.. any advice?

stick with what works for now, if you find you can't get that carb working well enough after tuning for a while, then go aftermarket, but understand that puts you back to square 1
