CB100 First Build

Thanks for the heads up on the 150cc kits. Was looking at a piston that would take it to 125cc with a rebore. But will email powroll, depends on the cost of shipping to Australia.

Looking at two ways of doing the rear sets. One is to use exhaust hangers from a cm185 that I saw someone on here use. Or make a bracket that mounts to the passenger footrests and possibly the swing arm bolt. Waiting until I get the seat and tank mounted this week to work out what would be best.

Having done the swinging arm/centre stand pivot point/ ally plate version I would recommend the CM 185 route for rear sets. I don't know how operational powroll is looking at comments if you google. However you live in the land of bucket racing and peops down your end of the globe have got that engine nailed so you shouldn't have to look far from home. The OHC and OHV 125s were originally designed as 150s with a square bore and stroke. It likes it that way!

Here's is how I am doing my rears set on a CB125 Frame.

These motors run very well at 150cc and you can buy the kits from people like powroll or Sammy miller products.
As surffly has said the remote reservoir shocks are not much cop unless you have the know how to replenish them, Crazypj on here has made some work well. It's important that the rear shocks actually have damping and not just spring like so many of the cheap replacements. A front end swap is a good idea too. But be sure to either keep the mudguard or make a fork brace to keep them working as a single unit.
Rear sets are a challenge but can be achieved in a variety of ways if you look thru the Honda small build archives on here.

Do you know if Powroll are still around? Last I heard they were closing up shop?

Hello rothko. I will get some info together today and send it to you Thanks for the interest Greg It looks like it will be pretty clean.

Got these in today. Will test fit them tonight.

Made some progress tonight with the new parts.
Here are some pics of the strip down and fitting.

The seat fits perfectly just need to make a box for the battery under the cowl, which should be easy to do as i can fix it to the brackets that bolt to the frame.

The tank is going to be a bit more difficult, if i use the existing mounts it hits the forks when i turn the handle bars. I measured it up to see if i can move the mounts back on the frame but i don't think there will be enough room. So will see if i can get new mounts welded to the tank.

Hopefully the rest of my parts will arrive before the weekend and i can make some more progress over the weekend.

Next up is to remove the engine and start the rebuild....that will be a first for me....but only one way to learn!

Got some more parts in today.

Now just need the handle bars to show up....

Also ordered a heap of engine parts from tena vintage for the rebuild as well as a new wiring loom as the current one looks like it has been hacked up over the years. Just need to decide if I will run a battery or not and if to go 12v.

Engine should be out this weekend.

To be quite honest a good quality 6v bulb and clean head light lense is adequate for the speeds of the bike, in hind sight I would personally keep the battery and current electrical system, the weight saving is still less than having a good dump before you ride and the reliability is un compromised. You can always shove everything under the seat if you are deleting the side panels.

Thanks Erskine. Will remember to always take a dump before riding this thing.
Was going to move the battery under the seat cowl. Will probably just keep it 6v to start with. At least until it's all together and running well. Then consider 12v later.

Hell with weight savings, why do people move a battery higher and further back on the bike.
I bet you the weight savings is negated by the added moment of the new battery mounted so far up.

Went and spoke to a local shop today here in sydney about what i need to get it registered in terms of battery or no battery, the decision is to leave it with a small 6V battery.

Still waiting for my clip ons to turn up but messed around with the handle bars today to get an idea of how things would fit. Also tried to work out where to fit brackets for clip ons, still not 100% sure, but going to have them welded on most likely rather than bolted to the pivot arm bolt and centre stand.

Discovered today that the wiring on this bike is an absolute mess! I think the new $20 loom i bought was a very smart investment!

Here are a few pics of the handle bars turned upside down, new headlight brackets and rear fender removed. Liking the way its starting to look.

Motor out tomorrow.

Lovely, I , and many others I bet too, wish these ace seat and tanks had been available when we did our small honda cafés ....... Bit of a bloody gift really! Grrrrrr.

Being able to get the seat and tank has made it a lot easier. The tank still requires a bit of work to fit right.

Thanks for the link. Will be reading your build thread to get some tips.
