Looked up the OBBarn carbs. 249.95 for the "re-furbished carbs on sale for 202.95.
I'd like to think I've gotten pretty good at rebuilding carbs so I just need to find the crustiest, cheapest ones I can find and get some rebuild kits. The bike DID come with an extra float too!!
totally different fender on the F. If your tail light bracket isn't rusty on the F i'd be interested (it should be chrome)... I had to paint mine black on my 350F. I am eventually planning to restore the four (with the exception of the exhaust that will get a 4 into 4 SS.)
ok... Been a bit of delay. I stopped working on the bikes to build a workshop. It's 90% complete and looks good from the angles that the wife can see it, so I'm back to working on bikes, till it's cool enough to finish the siding.
Im not sure the Ignition Advance is installed correctly. When I set the points gaps and then go to adjust the timing, the right point set lights up the timing like when it's supposed to light up the left. At one point before I set the point gap, the left side did light up. The only thing I can think is that maybe the ignition advance is on upside down... but I seem to remember an alignment on the cam shaft that prevents this.... Picture below is how it sits with the LT on the rotor on timing mark.
Figured it out! The yellow wire was BARELY grounding out... Ignition Advance can only go on one way. One little nub on the cam shalf must align with a notch... All is good. Going to go test fire. If all goes well I'll post a video later.
Test fire went OK. Ran for a minute with the carbs not adjusted... I adjusted the carbs and now the battery is dead.... Charging now. Mean while I refreshed the carbs on the 350F and she runs well. Boggs down at full throttle. Any ideas?
Here is the 350F. Been my daily driver for 10 years. Only left me stranded once from a broken throttle cable.
Ok... Finally getting some "slow time" with work which is good and bad. Good cause I get time to wrench... Bad cause I'm not making money... The crazy summer was enough to buy a bunch of parts and a new c100 Honda cub so the down time is much appriciated. Got the bitch running and she seems to be in good health... If I can figure out how to post this video from my phone... I will
Ok... Figured out I can't upload stuff directly from the phone... Here is the video of it running... After some more testing it "Pops" from time to time... Is this a running rich symptom?
not sure how to get the video to work, If anyone has an idea let me know. Working for a test ride this Sunday... Anyone have a spare Tach Cable? I seam to have misplaced mine....
Thanks! I've been working on all of them and building the shed/shop and working like mad so it's slowed everything down... Especially posting progress. I should have all three bikes DONE for spring... Now that I've said that I've jinxed it I'm sure. HAHA!
Don't forget, the spark advance mechanism has a retaining screw coupled with a washer. The screw threads into the cam. If you don't install this, the points cam (the lobed jacket that activates the points) will slip away from the motor, disengage from the little peg and spin at higher rpms. Your timing will be all over the place.
Oh.. It's installed... That spark advancer was a bitch to remove to make sure it was installed properly. (turns out if was, I was just second guessing myself). All is good. Waiting on a Tach cable and I'll be good to go.
