CB360 Cafe Project.......

Ok, I had wondered why people don't do it this way, hence why I asked the question.

so......cable or linkage down to original btake pivot?

As did I PJ, paid $23US 8) should work perfect, the Suzuki cable has the same connections as the Honda linkage so should work a treat,

I will make my own cable brakets but if you are looking to buy them, use the clutch cable brackets from the same bike ;D

I don't BUY anything I can make ;) ;D
Not able to swage end to cable or I would have made one.
I've got some silver solder to shorten front brake cable though and will make a new brass barrel to replace he moulded one

If you make a cable brake rear set "set up" PJ I want all the details and good pics.

PJ, will be good to see your cable brake set up on your thread, I'm still sitting on the fence with cable Vs Linkage, off to put my gauges together now that my decals have arrived, thanks Sonreir! pics soon 8)

Hi All, small update...finished the gauges, massive effort to get them to look...OK...as you can see from the before pics, they were rusty and dented, the face panels were faded but after a lot of panel beating and sanding spot primer and sanding etc etc they cam up ok, a big thanks to Sonreir for supplying the custom face decals, they have made the gauges a real one off and very effective with the flames in the center.

These will be ok to get the bike going but I think I will replace them with a digital one piece unit down the track.........maybe 8)

nice. I was a little worried when you said flames. But they arent gawdy at all. pretty darn neat.

Re: CB360 Cafe Project... Engine strip down...

While I wait for my new welder to arrive I thought I would have a break from the frame etc and start on the engine, what I do really depends on what I find.

so far, it all appears to be in really good shape, the head and valves are like new, put tem aside, barrels are good, pistons are good, RH rings are stuck in the pistons but I'm not surprised as one spark plug was broken and they had a go at getting it it but luckily did not screw anything up.

Stripped the bottom end and all is in really good shape, one thing I have noticed is that there is a huge amount to rubbish in the oil pick up, silicone from the case joint, and aliuminium from the case??? but the pump does not have a mark in it so the screen did its job.

then I noticed the case markes, the chain has been running on this bit, but was this before or after the, what looks like to be a mod of some sort, can anyone tell me what they have tried to do here???

chain looks like new, like the rest of the engine
IMG_1213.jpg

so any ideas??? do I leave it there or should I cut it out, is it in the wrong place??? the chain guides were in place, the top of one had seperated from the metal baking but was still in tact, I never ran the motor so cant tell you if it made any noises

thanks in advance :)

I believe that is supposed to be there...only yours is worn down to a tiny little nub. I went through all of my build pics...I didnt have a decent pic of that at all. The only pic I got w that in it is on my blog. almost at the bottom of the page... focused on my copper gasket scraper...you can see the edge of that in the pic.http://www.hondabrat.com/search?updated-max=2012-07-09T19:53:00-07:00&max-results=7&start=7&by-date=false

also check this info...that thing may have been a "cup" that the end of the tensioner sits in.

My top case doesn't look like that.
I think there should be a 'cup' to locate front guide but I haven't 'been inside' motor for quite a while
Looking back at your close up, there appears to be an inverted 'V' broken out?

Bottom case, you can see 'hole' for tensioner plunger (ignore gearchange drum)
CB360selectordrum.jpg

Tensioner 'horseshoe', you can see where this on had chain rubbing on it pretty bad (it's out of Brendon's motor)
The 'cup' part that holds tensioner blade is real beat up so I fitted a NOS one and heavy duty cam chain.

Interesting.......I will put the engine together without the bottom case and see what is going on before making any mods, I have placed an order for the guide set with Legendary rider so this will help.

PJ, my bottom horseshoe looks like this also, but I dont know if this was before or after the recent rebuild but I will replace it, to change the chain as you mentioned do you need to replace the gears?

Can't change crank gear so don't worry about them.
I still haven't seen one with bad wear, even on 100,000 mile motor
If the cup piece the tensioner fits in is still OK you don't really need to change it.
Brendon had 'recall' tensioner break and chain eat the cup piece

I mocked up the engine with the bottom case off....easier said than done.

I can see now why the modified bit is there, there must have been a major cam chain failure that caused the area to get damaged to the point that the guide slot could not be used, the top slot that the Tee piece drops into in the head has alos been repairs, they have done a good job of it but the only fault I can see is that the guide is next to the chain at the top but goes away fron the chain at the bottom, is anyone able to confirm for me if this is correct or should the guide follow the chain? the guide I refer to is the one that does not move on the drive side with the Tee section at the top.

photo below has some areas that I have pointed out which say the same as above, the lower square is where I think the guide should be (paralell to the chain)

the hole that the guide is slotted in is where I think I will fill in then gring out to suit, like a small cup (this is what the manual looks to have)

I have ordered the aftermarket guides from Legendary rider so I think I can save this engine, gasket set arrived today from Japan, very cheap, and only took 3 days to get here! wow!

I just did an ebay search...you can get cb360 engine cases twixed $50 - $90 bucks all day long. Just be sure to ask all the right questions. cracks, dents, scratched and worn machined surfaces, broken bolts, bolt holes and threads...etc
