PO sent me the main jets he'd had in it. they're 125's. seems high, but with the air box practically non existant he must have been running it with carbs unprotected, and with the baffleless pipes, it makes sense. anybody agree?
The one I'm working on now has stock jetting, no muffler/ 4 into 1 header and no filters. Runs like absolute shit without A LOT of choke so yeah I would bet that is why. I'll be building filters and muffler for it here after we figure out a few other things with body work.

Pins were a pain to get out, had too carefully twist them out with needle nose and they only go out ONE way.
Looking at that carb you have some of the same signs that made me toss the originals that came with the bike for a much better set. That post in the center that the main jets go into on yours looks like it is starting to corrode slightly. If the o-ring that goes around the jet does not seal correctly it will leak extra fuel around the jet making for RICH conditions. Just letting you know if you end up with weird running problems. Ours were much worse than yours though.

I haven't used a polishing tool yet, just some steel wool to clean the pieces.
So my best guess is p.o. of these carbs shoved the pins in the wrong way and now I'm fucked. Here's an up close. In the Haynes manual it says the head should be on the right, butt of the pin on the left. Doesn't look that way.
The end sticking out the farthest is the one you want to work on. I use a small center punch and a rubber or plastic mallet to get the pin moving. Carefully...
Well got the slides and floats working. Didn't get rid of all the varnish but they should operate ok. Gonna use a ratchet strap to get them back on when I have a nice day outside. Also found a petcock that fits this tank, now just waiting for a line splitter and I should be able to fire her up. Then its just new controls, new seat, and new bars. Along with a fork rebuild and new tires.
