So it's been a while, around 3 years, since I started my CX500 build and a couple of years since I got it on the road and painted etc. Rather than dig up an old thread I'm kicking off a new one for PartII
To start with this is how it looked when I got it.

And now it's time to stick a fairing on it and start PartII
So today I went to see a guy who makes vintage fairings and race bike glass, also races as well. Anyway we tried a few fairings and I really liked this one
Its a mold taken of a Laverda SFC750 race bike (with a close to factory fairing but not quite), I go pick it up next week and then I'll have to sand it as you can see the raised stickers that were on the original race fairing so it says Laverda down the side. The screen he has made for it is a double bubble and should be great for the road. Once I have it it'll be time to make a frame to mount it, decided what headlight/lights to run and paint it.
Nice but you need to level the tank, my big pet peeve on the CX's with that style tank is the slope. when you drop the front and raise the back so it lines up straight with the seat and the bottom of the tank is level they look soooo much better, but that is my opinion and not worth the virtual paper it is written on. The fairing will be a very nice addition. I am about to start on one, unfortunately it is a 82 C model and has the cruiser style tank, I prefer your models tank.
Yep, I'd like to level the tank but I need the fuel capacity, if I level it then I'll lose quite a bit of capacity due to the location of the filler cap. I'll probably stry and blend the seat in better with the tank though so I can spray that at the same time as spraying the fairing.
Steve, let me point out first that I've always thought you have the nicest CX I've ever seen. And I'm stoked about the fairing - I think it will make a great addition.
As far as the seat goes, have a look at the seat on my GR650 build (link below). My frame below the seat has a good dip in it, so I ordered a glass seat that had enough on the sides to hide the frame.
I did not know you would loose capacity on the tank. That sucks, at least the fairing will distract the eye from seeing the slope as much. So all the guys that sit the tank level lose fuel space. Shitty deal that is. It will look good with that fairing sprayed to match though.
Picked it up today with the screen and did a test fit at lunch time, it need to come forward some more and I need to see it with the weight on the wheels and not on the center stand so might try and check that out tomorrow. Anyway, here's a couple of pics with the screen, this isn;t the final spot but you get the idea

Started getting the brackets sorted, had to wait until this years inspection for it's registration so I could pull it apart with no rush to get it back together.
Made a bracket from a piece of pipe that, when spilt down the middle, fits around the headstock. Then used some UBolts to attach it to the frame. Built off of this and ended up here. Just need to add some angle bracket to the end (attached to the headlight bolts) to mount the fairing too. The headlight keeps it all lined up so the brackets dont really need to do much just pull it all in tight. Also need two brackets for the returns to mount to the radiator bolts. Should finish mounting it on Saturday and can take it for a spin before it comes off for paint.
Anyway, some pics as it stands after today. Cutting the headlight hole was a bit stressfull, but it turned out I'd measured right so all is good.
Also got to decide on what colour to do the inside of the fairing, thinking silver to match the stripes at the moment but good old black might look better.
