To the OP: Sorry again for coming across as if I was attacking you personally. Didn't mean to. And now, I'm sorry for derailing a thread you started.

Everyone else: You're all right.

We're e all just throwing out our experiences and views... No harm done.

It occurs to me that if the tag was where it was supposed to be, you'd have never known how big an "asshole" he is/was/could be.

Granted, a lot more extreme than this, but I used to love these on the sportbike forums. Somebody would post up whining about how "they were only speeding for a block... on one wheel... in a school zone... with no registration/insurance/motorcycle endorsement... and multiple equipment violations... And this douchebag cop pulled them over and wrote them a ticket..." ::) ::) ::)

I could see if this "ass hole" cop was tring to sell a CAFE RACER CB on craigslist or something but fuck he is doing his job. He told you to move a sticker, not suck his dick behind quickee mart after his shift ended to get outta a ticket. If you guys dont want to be labled bitchy hipster's it might be a good idea not to act like one. Ive been in cuffs enuff to know your only as right or wrong as the cop decides to let you be so deal with it and man up.

The thing with motor units is their job is specifically traffic and motorvehicle law. I'm a patrol deputy, so I do a little traffic, but I mostly answer calls for service (i.e. Domestic Disputes, Burglary, Assualt, etc.). The motor units and traffic guys live and breathe stuff like inspection stickers and tread depth. You got lucky! I know traffic guys who right tickets for tags not fastened to vehicles in the level manner described in the code section!

Do you know the law on sticker placement? In PA. All I could find is that it should be on the left side either on the lower fork or by the shifter

It's not ridiculous. Police and common citizens should not be crossing paths. The way that police and citizens cross paths are:

The citizen is an asshole
The cop is an asshole

So if you're not an asshole there's a good chance that 99.9% of the time the cops you deal with are the assholes.

It's not that 99.9% of cops are assholes. It's that the percentage that aren't assholes, you won't ever talk to because they're not going out of their way to fuck with people.

That's insightful. Far better than what I was going to post so I'll quote you for truth.

I got pulled over a while ago by a bike cop because my head light was too dim. I asked the cop which was worse, dim head light or eating an apple while riding a motorcycle (like he was when we passed me). He politely suggested I think about a brighter light, and left me alone. Of course lights are important. My battery was dead and I was trying to charge it up.

He wasn't an asshole, he was quite pleasant, but then again most police are around here.

If you go to PennDOT's site, they have the motorcycle inspection codes available in PDF format.

I got pulled over the other night in my Scion. Passed the cop doing 41 in a 40. Went by him, and saw his headlights flip on. Two seconds later the red and blues.

I stopped, turned my car off, had my license and registration out and ready before he got to my window.

Conversation went like this:

"Evening, sir."

"Good evening. License and registration please. Did you know that you have a brake light, uh... tail light..... uh, shit, Your tag light it out. Sorry man, it's been a long night."

"No worries, sir. I didn't know that. I got rear ended last week, probably broke the bulb."

"Yeah, most likely."

He then went back to his squad car for a few minutes to run my license/etc.

"Alright sir, when the shop repairs your car, make sure they fix that tail light too. Have a good night."

"Thank you, officer. Stay safe out there, and I hope the rest of your night goes smoothly."

"Hey, thanks man!"

Two cordial dudes. I wasn't mad that he pulled me over. I wasn't speeding. I wasn't doing anything illegal. I was out after midnight, and he used the tag light as an excuse to pull me over.

I learned my tag light was out, and got delayed for a couple of minutes.

He told a driver that a tag light was out, and made sure there wasn't another drunk driver on the streets.

I think it worked out just fine for both of us.

Cops are individuals just like you and me. Remember that.

Justin you should have thrown a rich kid bitch fit and kick his car over and told the cop he didnt know who he was messing with and you would have his badge or to wait till your dad heard about this

Justin, WTF were you doing out after midnight? You know what would have happened if that cop had given you some food?

Stupidest thing i've read all day. Yes, it is his job to make sure traffic laws are abided. That being said, and what is being discussed, is that he was a fucking prick about it, as is typical with police interaction. I like what is being said on this thread, sometimes cops are cool and realize that we are both human beings and worthy of a little patience, respect and understanding. Cops that forget that they are SERVING the public and just become power abusing revenue agents are the issue at hand. Not much anyone can do about it, but its certainly not worth pointing fingers back at folks who express their disdain for such an interaction. If you've been in cuffs so many times, i would think you'd have a pretty good understanding of just how indignant and power hungry cops can often be. I was probably shortsighted in saying that 99.9% of them are crooked, but i will say that an overwhelming number of my interactions with police have been quite infuriating--despite keeping a cool and level head and maintaining respect and dignity, despite not being extended the same. Fact of the matter is this, if you are being courteous and respectful and you receive some bullshit attitude from a damn traffic cop (i'm sure his job is really high danger and stress LOL)...i think some rants about the interaction are well warranted. Just because there are good cops out there too doesn't mean that we shouldn't chastise those who aren't. Bad cop, no doughnut.

Milehigh, there is no way that the assholes are anything but the exception to the rule, and to say otherwise is to cast more inappropriate angst on a group of people of whom the vast majority would step in front of a crazed gunman to save total strangers. I have no issue with chastising those who deserve it, but to state that 99% are anything is just adding to a mutual cycle of mistrust that benefits no one. Bad citizen, sign here.

I'll just quote my last post on this one:

I was probably shortsighted in saying that 99.9% of them are crooked, but i will say that an overwhelming number of my interactions with police have been quite infuriating--despite keeping a cool and level head and maintaining respect and dignity, despite not being extended the same.

I'm pretty sure it is fair to assess that traffic cops, as those are the most commonly encountered, are not stepping in front of any bullets and are probably too damn stupid to do so anyway--hence they are traffic cops. That being said, i did retract my statement that 99.9% are all crooked, and explained that what should be required of someone who is designated to protect and SERVE, should do so with dignity and respect if that is what they want in return. It is very easy to be cordial in your interactions regardless of if you are in a position of authority or not. It seems that more often than not many traffic cops are of the mindset that they are mere revenue agents and you, the citizen, better shut the fuck up and take your lumps. That to me, isn't service, its piracy. So now to narrow the focus, traffic cops on power trips are real fucking ass-clowns doing the bidding of "the man." Like it or not, there are thousands of documented examples of this abuse of power, and all i'm suggesting is that it is bullshit and getting stopped in a traffic violation should not warrant any aggression or disdain from an officer of the law.

I suppose next i'll somehow be looped into not supporting the troops or something of the like...but lets try focus on reality here.
