I was on my way to work this morning when I witnessed something the frustrates me every time I see it... some bozo blowing a red light on a motorcycle wearing nothing but a t-shirt and shorts. It's guys like that that give motorists a bad impression of us motorcyclists. I'm glad there aren't regulations on clothing for motorcyclist, at least in my state, because someone dumb enough to ride a sport bike in shorts and a t-shirt isn't going to learn until they frost the pavement with their ass cheeks, or better yet, their face. I'm not and old cranker with a chip on my shoulder because I miss being young and dumb, in fact I'm not even 30, I just get pissed when these guys refuse to take safety seriously and give us riders a bad name. Does this piss anyone else off or is it just me?
With regard to what other riders wear, that doesn't piss me off at all. It's their life and body, who am I to impose my views on them. I don't understand the reasoning but its their choice.
Disobeying traffic rules is another thing. This affects everyone on the road. Around here Amber is the new green and Red is the new Amber. Ridiculous, I've almost been t-boned a few times over the past year or two.
Guess it doesn't bother me at all. Because I'm about 20 minutes from Arkansas, which has a no helmet law. Last weekend out of the 150 bikers I saw. About 5 had helmets on, and what use is skin when your brain dead if not dead dead. And I ride jacket less only when it's 90 plus.
The high today was near 93°, and I wore a mesh jacket on my short ride to work. I stopped at a gas station on the way and was told about 6 times that I was nucking futs for wearing a "coat". I actually told one person "You think it's hot now? Go run full speed and slide on the blacktop, then lay there for about 20 minutes with open cuts on your body. I'll take a little bit of sweat any day."
Took my bike out for the first time since the I finished the build. Over 100 with the heat index. Leather jacket, oves, helmet, jeans and my Gasolina boots. Shit happens and I like my skin. Honestly it wasn't bad when I was moving

I live at the beach and about fifteen miles from the Florida line, where there is no helmet law. I see kids running on sport bikes with just a pair of board shorts no shoes or shirt nearly every day. I look at it as nature reasserting natural selection. I'm a full face helmet, mesh jacket with armor, gloves, jeans, and boots kind of guy. Sometimes without gloves. And sometimes I'll run the bike to the gas station by my house in shorts and no jacket, but that is literally next door to my neighborhood. And then sometimes there's this little dead end road just over the Florida line that I'll run without a helmet. But there's water on both sides of the road and little to no development and it dead ends at the end of the little island. So for me that's one road I'll ride 'dirty' because it's very nearly a religious experience.
Being new to riding and being new to a college town I notice riders and what they wear much more than I ever did before. I am surprised by the majority of riders not wearing any protective gear. Helmets are a rarity and if they are wearing one, it means that they aren't wearing any other safety gear.
If i see another rider on a sport bike in flip flops i'm gonna knock him over myself, j/k. In all reality i dont wear a helmet as much as i should nor an armored jacket. But never in shorts or flip flops. I always wear solid boots. Now disobeying traffic laws will hurt others, that is a line crossed.
I think the best i've seen is a woman on a sportbike, near the South Carolina border (no helmet law there too) wearing no helmet, a dress with a short skirt and heals...
cool to see, but dangerous nonetheless
I'll admit though, sometimes riding in a t-shirt is refreshing on a hot day...though 95% of the time i'm in full gear
The day I picked up my bike I was leaving the guys house with bike in the back of the truck. I see in my rear view some guy on a sport bike weaving through traffic to get a closer look at my bike. He's wearing a hat on backwards, shorts and tank top with tennis shoes. He's got a helmet on the side of his bike....I guess in case he lays it down on that side the tail section of his bike will be ok. When I see a guy with a helmet strapped to his bike but not one on his head this is height of stupidity.

Years back I worked at a local bike wrecker when one day a guy came in wearing only shorts and running shoes. Oh ya, and gauze from his shoulder down to his ankle on one side. And a cane. He was looking for the usual 'crash parts' for an RD400. He didn't seem to be in too much pain, but then again he was so doped up you could hardly understand what he was saying.
