Dust monkey cafe xs 400

I have decided that less is more,
This is a seat I have done to have a play around with , I'm not keeping this one ;) , the red with gold pin stripe against the carbon looks lush,
This is defo the way I'm going with the carbon on the bike now :)

Cheers guys

The carbon looks amazing, I was toying with the idea of doing something similar because not many people seem to be doing it, and it's much lighter than fibreglass. Very good idea leaving some of it on show too, it would be a shame no to!

Is it possible for a home enthusiast do you think? My other idea was to make the mould from fibreglass and hire a professional in to make a carbon version which I would have thought would be fairly cheap.

Fantastic build!!! I was toying with the idea of making my seat from carbon too, but I have heard its very hard to get it to look good...Can't wait to see it finished !!!

Thanx guys :)

Ryan, it's not that easy at all,I'm new to carbon but not fiberglass,
Real terms u need to vac bag or infuse the resin in the carbon to get the best results.

If u make a mold u need to make it with flanges so u can seal the bag , ie the proper way!

My seat is actually made from 7 different cut patterns to keep the weave nice and neat :-\
Are u in the UK Ryan ?

Cheers Wayne :)

Yeah I've been reading up since your last post, certainly looks a lot more envolved than fibreglass! Vacuum compression is a neat trick though!

I grew up in the Isle of Man but now living in Australia :)

Congrats again on a beautiful and unique seat!

Just found this thread, love the work you're doing. I think you should do a sticky on how to work carbon fiber. So I can find it easier. ;D Keep up the good work.

Ryan, thank you mate :) you defo have the best weather then mate

Rays,
I am no way qualified to teach or advise with my skills on carbon work,
I can say, just have a go mate, even laying up some flat sheet carbon is a buzz, the satisfaction is awesome :D

Cheers guys

You can use a few different things, wax or like liquid release .
If u want a guarantee then you can use Pva release agent,it makes a barrier between the plug and part :)
It's all cool stuff dude 8)

Cheers Wayne :)

Hello chaps :)
After having a think I'm not going for the carbon lay on the tank,
I found a lush black which I then added a bit more sparkle to it 8)

So main color is the green, which then had the top blacked out and then a special sparkle
Over the lot.

Got the tank on the bike , wow!!! Way to much green

So I thought of using more blast on it but that was too much as well,
This is we're I decided to go for a 3rd color, the silver ;)

Now I'm happy, I still have the lettering an pin strip to sort an design so that will again brake the boldness from the silver .

Till then this is how it stands tank wise :D

Cheers chaps

More slow progress,
I made the batt box and the sneaky side covers to hide it ;)
It also fills the empty space befor the rear wheel :)

Hello fellow builders :)
Had a long time off the bike but I have made a fresh start for the new year :)

I got a great prezzzie in the form of my rear tyre,so I finally blasted the wheel and got it painted in my lovely chocolate velvet brown :p

It's hard to explain but now the wheels are painted it has changed how I want the bike to look :-\

I was happy to go with the loud green but now I want a different direction.

I have decided on a colour change 8) I'm not 100% but I think I have the new design in mind

So for now , good bye boggy green,I will miss u ???

Cheers wayne ;)
