Engine rebuild quote UPDATE

If there's any slack in the chain in the front of the engine, try to dial that out as much as possible, too.

Will this suffice?
nope . it must line up wihin around 3/16 of the mark as the flywheel is rotated forward to the T and the left cylinder at tdc. . put the piston at tdc . line up he T on the flywheel rotate the cam gear clockwise using the bolt holding it on too remove slack in chain.

and than after that put the cam gear in with the marking lining up with the top mark correct?
how do I put the left cylinder in TDC?

you lost me

What do you not understand . . the instructions are simple . . tdc is top dead center . . put the piston at the top of the cylinder with the mark on the gear near the mark on the head.

Line up the T stamped into the flywheel with the mark in the case.

Put a wrench on the bolt that holds the cam on.

Turn the wrench/can the same direction the hands on a clock go but just use light pressure . . all you want to do is remove any free play in the timing chain . . you do not want to actually tty to turn the can in as circle.

Look to see if the marks are lined up on the can gear.

The line on the cam gear should be pointed straight up or down. The cam will then bolt in at the correct angle.

You need to follow my instructions exactly . .if the line on the gear does not point straight up at the little point on the engine you see in your photo, remove the gear and slip the chain over by one more tooth.

If you do not follow the instructions exactly you might bend your valves

I hand turned it and their were no stops. After turning until the mark was pointing straight up again, this is where she landed.
Is this correct?

OK most xlnt . . this also means that your timing chain is not stretched out . . do you know how to adjust the can chain tensioner? . . you need to do that next before rotating the engine any more.
