Very nice! So clean! I ordered the new fork seals so once I get a break from classes I'm going to be rebuilding those and cleaning them up.
Slowly cracking the head open so I can get a head job done and (hopefully) only have to replace the piston rings and maybe a quick hone of the cylinders. 60psi compression on every cylinder.
With gas rising towards $4 a gallon, I really want to get this bike finished so I don't have to drive my gas-guzzler truck.
I just knocked the carbs off mine to get a rebuild so that I can park my truck too within a couple weeks hopefully, as I think Michigan is finally going to thaw out.
And I 'just noticed the Falcon in the background, what year is it, if you don't mind me asking? I've got a 65 Fairlane 500 that's waiting on the funds for a 289 to magically appear in my bank account.
As a side note, the quad exhaust on the early 80s CBs sounds awesome-a buddy of mine rides an '80, and another friend was able to identify the bike, year, and exhaust by sound alone from 100 yards away.
What can I say, as a musician I pay attention to these things
It's a 64 Falcon, a buddy of mine's. He had it parked at the university unlocked and someone somehow lit the back seat on fire. All he knows is he went outside and saw a firetruck and a flooded car.
If the quad exhaust will clear the rearsets, I'll hang onto it for now, but eventually I think I'm going to go for a 4 to 1.
I'll toss some more pictures on here tonight, I've got the frame painted and the wheels cleaned up. I'm literally waiting for the engine gaskets to show up so I can put the engine back together and get it at least a rolling frame with engine inside.

couple questions
1. what did you use to clean up the wheels?
2.I am planing on buying that same seat from Carpy, i notice in your pic theres a gap between the seat and the tank is it just not bolted on or is it short with the stock tank?
3. what kind of shocks are you using?
Re: Famous Last Words. ~ 1980 CB750C cafe. *Now with a mockup!*
Well for the seat, it's just not bolted down yet, but you will have to put a spacer on the button or it won't sit flush. I say buy it though; can't beat Carpy's quality and it matches the bike perfectly.
The wheels luckily were not rusted. I used a wire brush on the spokes to remove what rust there may have been. Don't underestimate brasso though. I am using brillo pads to clean and smooth the aluminum and finishing with brasso on a wool buffing pad on my drill press to make a mirror finish.
And the shocks are off Ebay, but they work well, and can be adjusted to be pretty stiff.
I'm not going to use this tank, but couldn't visualize what it will look like with a faded blue tank sitting on it, so that's just for looks now. I ordered a bunch of stuff from Dime City (100+ hour workweek last paycheck!), so looking forward to the small UPS girl on my doorstep. Decided against the Loaded Gun rearsets I have for now, maybe later.
Question though, I've tried 2 different starters, on a 12v battery, both do not have enough ummph to turn it over without help, but i can easily turn the bike over. any ideas? Or just poor starters?
Re: Famous Last Words. ~ 1980 CB750C cafe. *Now with a mockup!*
I was considering it, but I hate relacing and truing wheels with a passion. I'm just gonna polish them up really nice in the next few weeks and maybe in the future I will paint them the same red.
Re: Famous Last Words. ~ 1980 CB750C cafe. *Now with a mockup!*
I got a tank of a 77 cb750 and ironically my key unlocks it. And best of all, I got it to fire up! sounds mean. I just boiled the carbs in pinesol and got them all cleaned out so we will see if I can get it to stay running tonight. Got some stuff painted such as the front fender. Now I just have to put it all together and paint!
Can you post a picture of how you have the gauges mounted? I have pretty much the same setup and I've been trying to find good ways of mounting them. Thanks.
Yeah here's what they look like, I will put up a better one tonight, I'm leaving for work now. But it's basically an old mount, I don't know if its off the 82 or 80, but I just bent it around a bit, and am going for new idiot lights after i finish it up. And I think the guages are off a 77. I got a box of parts along with the bikes when I bought them.
