Welp, I moved out and had to leave the bike due to space issues. Although I will be back to pick it up in a few weeks. But until then, Nothing is going to be done to the bike. A very sad sad moment
I do have some last minute photos of the finished tank I will post of in the coming days... I wouldn't really consider it finished though because my leak test had some failures here and there.
Now, I know I spent quite some time getting this tank in a workable stage except where I'm at now involves a lot of grinding and in the location I'm at now, I'm sure there would be a lot of noise complaints. So... I was thinking I might just buy a different tank, but I want a stretched tank. a cb750s tank is actually just as long as my stretched tank..
Here is the question I'm sure is asked a hundred times but where exactly would I need to modify to get a 750 to fit. Is there hammering involved? Will mounts need to be adjusted? I've read somewhere that I would need to find a way to secure the end of the tank.
Grind away. To hell with the neighbors. As long as you do it during daylight hours you should be fine. Do you have a bunch of people around who all work midnights? Where did you relocate to? I'm near Michigan City, if you're close and can use my garage.
If I were you I would finish your tank...you came to far to just stop because of your neighbors! If you do decide to go with the cb750 tank, I got one I'd trade for yours!
I actually just moved to Bloomington, IN because I transferred to IUB. So I'm living in an apartment and they have strict rules (including noise ordinance). I'll be going back up to northern Indiana to pick up my bike so maybe then I can try to make the tank leak free. From there on I can do all the bondo and painting work no problem back at the apartment.
Great build so for! I have a few comments on some of the posts...
The cracks you saw on your behind the seat hump arent really cuts they are what is called under cut in the welding world usually from having your heat up a little high. You can weld and re grind again but wont make a difference structurally on the sheet metal..
Love the rabbit lol I am a diehard vw guy specially when it comes to mk1's
glad to see you made it to bloomington. i've got space in my garage for wrenching/metal work if you need it. i used to live at an apartment complex on the southeast side of town, where you weren't even supposed to be allowed to have a motorcycle according to the lease. i worked on my bike and my car just about everyday right in the parking lot and the maintenance people would stop to check it out. they thought it was cool
Yes bacon, that'd be awesome. I'll get ahold of you if I ever need to do some work. My complex prohibits us from working on our vehicles because they don't want grease/oil on the ground. I'll start working on my bike and if they ever intercept I'll try to bring my bike in my room and do it in there. ;D
