Why don't you skim block level and re-machine pistons to zero deck?
Adjust compression with gasket (use copper gasket from Lani, http://www.coppergaskets.us/)
If your having it done, counter-bore oil feeds in block and head and fit hollow dowels, then use slightly larger diameter 'o' ring.
It cures all the oil leak problems when 'o' rings get hard (I did my 550 around 1980)
If they are 'off' front to back it isn't a problem anyway (sides are actually just an irritation really if the clearances are good.)
Is he using long parallels under block?
I've never flexed one?
BTW, 'wrong' plug is probably going to Michigan
Oh, I forgot to take pic of new oversize plug, looks just like the original, but bigger ;D
Im not sure how he clamped down and leveled the cylinder. They are close enough now that im happy with it. Boring out the oil feeds sounds like a pretty interesting idea and i have never heard of that before. Im so tired of building this motor i just want it done. It has been one thing after another. I am doing a whole thread just for the motor build if you are interested in that. Its pretty long. http://forums.sohc4.net/index.php?topic=85698.0
I basically started this with very little motor building experience.
Of course I'm interested in motor's, particularly CB550's as I've had at least 1 since 1977 8)
Thanks for the link, I'll be over at SOHC4 later to check it all out and make stupid comments ;D
Took the motor back apart to paint the cylinder. Started looking for my new head and cylinder gasket. I can not find them. I had them inside for safe keeping but this build has taken so long I dont know where they are. I know where i last saw them but i dont live alone so things get moved and thrown away. Ill look around a little more but i have a feeling im gong to have to buy new head and base gasket. F

Im going to try and get the Cafe bike on the lift this next week to do a little more on the frame. I need to get this bike going.
Well I never found the gaskets. Im sure they will show up someday but until then i ordered a new set from dynoman and also a full gasket kit off ebay. I pushed the 175 off to the side and pulled the 550 onto the lift for the first time ever. Time to get to work. I started by building a new electrical tray. Since i decided to go with the dyna2000 i need to start over. Im not done with it but the battery is mounted inside, the dyna bolts to the back there and the reg/rec bolts on top. Starter solenoid is on the side. I still need to weld a tab for the blinker relay then drill holes for the wires and breaker switch. Also on the list is to mount the blinkers and speedometer.
I think this is how im going to do my blinkers. Its a piece of tube that has nuts welded on each end. Then you use the blinkers nut as a sort of jam nut to keep the blinker in place. Ill weld the tube to the fairing brace but for now its just zip tied until i decide for sure. I tried taking some picture with my phone but they are pretty bad. Ill post them any way. The blinkers are level but i dont thin the fairing is symmetrical from one side to the other. One blinker is closer to the fairing then the other. From the front they look fine. You can only tell if you look at one side and then go look at the other.
did a little more welding today, nothing to special. Mounted my speedo. Im not sold on mounting it here but it works for now. I can always do something more fancy later on. Pulled out the camera and took real pictures this time.
Never found my gaskets so i had to buy some more. Got the 2 from dynoman and a full set off ebay. The ebay set looks like its missing the rubber pucks but i have some from other incomplete sets i have.
Took the bike apart so i could do some work to the frame. It took a 2 foot pry bar to get the nut on the swing arm bolt to budge. I think im going to take the frame in and have it blasted. So i can see the welds better and clean everything up.
Im debating on weather i want to have the parts clear powder coated or just leave them bare. Ill have to talk to the local PC shop and see how much that would cost.
Did some welding on the rear blinker mounts. I decided to do the same thing as the front with the jam nut so i welded a nut to the inside and then boxed it all in, welded it up and then ground it all smooth.
The guy is hit an miss on prices. Sometimes cheaper then others. Those were $75. Still need to do my fork legs and then have him redo my tank seat and fairing. They have dulled.
