Fork seals and dust boots.

How important are dust boots? I'm putting new seals on my RD's forks, but it's missing one dust boot. They are a tad pricey, so I'm wondering if it is a mistake to just run without them?

if you run without that dust seal your just going to get pissed off when the seal blows really fast and you have to take it all apart again

so i could have shortened that and just said get a dust seal

You definately need to use the dust seals. The oil seal will tear in short order, you'll run the risk of dirt/debris getting trapped under the oil seal and then you'll score the fork bushings or even worse the chrome sliders.

yeah... dust seals are a good idea.

i load the top of the fork seal with a nice layer of grease to keep moisture out and then put the seal on top of that.
