How important are dust boots? I'm putting new seals on my RD's forks, but it's missing one dust boot. They are a tad pricey, so I'm wondering if it is a mistake to just run without them?
You definately need to use the dust seals. The oil seal will tear in short order, you'll run the risk of dirt/debris getting trapped under the oil seal and then you'll score the fork bushings or even worse the chrome sliders.
