That's good to know Sonrier as I will probably need some new wires for the Wounded Duc project.

The OP is in Orstralia, so that's why I was trying to point him at some local sources, but he might be better off to just order a bunch of wires from Sparckmoto while he's out of town and they would be waiting for him when he gets home.

Well I’m committed to the red wiring, I think I would have to admit myself to a mental asylum we’re I do to more electrical wiring.

What I did do was neaten it up and label it, it’s also set up so that the bike can be charged without having to remove the electrical tray or seat.

I also got the licence plate in position but I think it’s needs to be sprayed black

I also replaced the split pins with new ones, just a few bolts to re torque then off to T. rex racing to be re shimmed, and Dyno tuned. Not sure if that will happen this break but it’s really getting close to a first ride

So I was a little worried if I’d made another boo boo with the loom, and that the tank would crush it.

Thankfully it’s all good, I also had some spare decals which I tried on my helmet and triple

Reckon I will try acid etching the triple (later)

Next job is to replace the throttle cable

Cheers for the kind words, the devil is in the detail. I’m finding a lot of the hard work you can’t even see once it’s done (well if it’s done properly anyway)

So got all excited thought I’d put the tank and plates on and go for a spin around the block....

So after putting 10 L in the tank and going to plumb it in I realised that the fuel leaks out from behind the tap (enter expletives)

The part that I needed to service was behind a retaining plate that was riveted on.. I thought I was kyboched, until a friend who has the same kind of bikes told me he just drilled the rivets out and put a new rubber seal in... so I did just that

I drilled out the rivets then removed the retaining plate a seal a spring washer and the seal before putting it all back together and re riveting it.

Once the petcock was repaired I put the tank back on and gave it a start as it was raining outside.

It’s runs but terribly, the idle is too high and it’s running super rich but that should all be good after the Dyno tune

There were a few oil leaks the cam cover seal weeps a little, my tacho plug is not doing its job , and the seal plug for the front cam tensioner is leaking not sure how difficult it is to replace or if it’s a silicone kind of job. The other place there was a leak was on the points side cover.

Everything else seemed to be doing what it should. Except me when I let a rag touch up against one of the headers and now I have this mess to try and get off, so far I’ve tried acetone with no success :/

Tomorrow I’m going to OMM to see if I can turn up a plug that works and some steering stops for the bottom triple.

Ah the ole’ leaky petcock. Had that problem, did the same thing. Just drilled out rivers and cleaned the gunk inside and problem solved with new seals.

So went to Old Man Murphys today and thought I’d have a crack at the lathe and remake the tacho blank.

Slight improvement on the but plug blank I dodged up before. I’m going to need to find a smaller o ring as the one I have is too thick.

OMM then made up the steering stops, I’m yet to drill and tap holes in the lower triple yet.

I also put some 3 bond on the seal of the points cover and front cam tensioner plug, it’s a bit dodge but I’m hoping it works.

I also dropped the oil from the first few starts and found a few small pieces of metal, I’m not sure what to make of it, if it’s just from the rebuild or something more sinister .

I’ve refilled the oil and I might give it another start tomorrow. Now I think she’s just about good to go to the mechanic

So Frankenhonda went for her maiden voyage around the block... Well actually what happened was I got the idle just right and let it warm up for about 10mins then finally decided it was time.

I got my helmet on and started backing down the drive way in between the cars and then ...engine stopped ... tried to start no joy ... took the seat and tank off then checked the plug, it was showing that I was running rich but I knew that. Next I checked for spark by the mild shock I received I confirmed that there was in fact good spark. Whilst I was checking the number one cylinder I noted that number two cylinder spark plug lead wasn’t secured properly. I put everything back in its place and I was ready to go.

I started her up again let it idle for five mins and was feeling pretty confident I’d remedied the situation. I backed out into street and off I went, slowly worked my way up to third gear and made it about two blocks away when a car backed out onto the street, I braked then stalled the bike after which it would not start. So I began the walk of shame and pushed her back to the garage.

Once I caught my breath I tried to work out what else could be wrong, gave Old Man Murphy a call and he told me to check fuel flow.

I disconnected the tank and tried to start the bike fired up first time. Then I checked the venting on the tank. I propped the tank up then turned the petcock on with the tank cap on and off. I didn’t see a noticeable difference in flow but I decided to take the seals off the cap and clean it all up with carburettor cleaner and put it all back together. I put the tank back on the bike the boom fired first try.

This time I managed to get two laps around the block and I shut it down and started it successfully four times.

Now the issue was that the dam tacho seal was still leaking, I was avoiding it because I knew it would mean taking the cam cover off but there was no other way. I removed the cam cover then cleaned it all up this time I used a liberal amount of Honda bond and replaced the cam cover. If this doesn’t work... well I’m gonna have to try something else.

I won’t know until tomorrow if it worked so I’ll just hurry up and wait.

Now I need to drill and tap holes into the lower triple for the steering stops and fingers crossed we’re good to go

There may be 2 seals for that tach drive. One to seal around the hole in the valve cover, but also one that goes in the drive itself. Around the rotating part of the tach drive.

It's a common source of oil leaks on the Honda SOHC's - I assume it's the same on the DOHC and frankly any bike.

You’re 100% right Tim, that second seal you’re leaking about is in the underside of the plug I made.

At first I thought it was my plug, so I put silicone in as well as the seal but in actual fact it was the seal that sits under the cam cover.

Fingers crossed today it doesn’t rain and I’ll take her for another test run to see if the leak has stopped. I have Old Man Murphy coming over for a visit he should be here in about 3 hours was hoping to show him but the sky is looking grey and miserable :/
