GL1000 clutch problem- I think.

Maritime, yes when I started realizing why the engine might not be turning over I was really scared that we might have bent a valve or something. Once I cleared the cylinder the engine fired right up and seems to be running as well as it ever has, no new noises or anything. Any way I can check for internal damage that doesn't involve tearing the engine down? Right now it's my brothers only means of transportation.

Hmm, I am not sure but if it is running ok you should be fine. There is a section on NGWCLUB and Randakks on it though may be worth a look.
 
Compression test? If the cylinder that was full of gas did bend the rod, it would not push the piston as high in the cylinder, should see a marked lower compression than the rest I would think.
 
That may be a good idea, I'm pretty sure I can borrow a compression tester from the local Autozone. He may be about to trade the bike off for a car/truck so we'll see if I get around to that.
