well... finally got one!!!! This build is completely going to be designed by my busn partner Sean. His bike got stolen early this spring, so we are going to build him something wild, as you can imagine it will have a ton of powder work and custom flair to it... here is the bike, rode it home, sucker ripps! i was rocking wheelies down the road with it!!!

we are going to stretch it, slam it, all satin and flat colors, with candy red accents. custom pipes... hope to upgrade the brakes, and make it so it can ride 2 up for a passanger... should be sick! Fast build is the name of the game on this one, not going to pull the motor till winter and do the frame then, we want him to have something to ride this spring/summer! should be done in about 2 weeks. here she is!

I do love me some Goldwing Cafe's!! Looking forward to it! Just promise me some big 'ol fat Bridgestone rubber...

Right on Joe, another 1100. I just road my GL1000 240 miles this weekend. Love it. Had a blast. Can't wait to see what you guys come up with.

Cheers,

Martime

Fairing comes off tonight! actually most of it is going to be used on my brothers goldwing build... doing flat tracker bars, ordered some ergo shorty mufflers, for the seat we are going to do a bratt style flat bench seat, cut really low... then the cool part, we are going to stretch the drive shaft and extend the swing arm 2 inchs, that will give the bike an agressive stance and lower it in back... then of course the basic tear down, powder, paint, gaskets, bearings, seals, brakes, lines, cables, etc

here is the muffler we are going with, this will be off the header, and be coated all black (header and all in high temp flat black)

just ordered the bars, they are 29.2 long flat tracker bars

that is pretty much all we have to order for now... the rest we can either fab up or is gaskets and bearings and stuff like that.

we are not pulling the motor so it should roll pretty smooth the whole build. the motor will come out this winter for the frame to be done

for the seat, we are going to shave the stock seat down and re wrap it

and a shot of my brothers after we did the fairing mock up... it is off and he is prepping to paint it

Going to look sic, especially with that 2" stretch on the swingarm. Long, low, powerful. Like a freaking cheetah coming at ya.

Love that muffler.

Really looking forward to this build. Nice job on your Bro's Goldwing. Like the styl. Any Goldwing purists give you guys some shit?

loving this, joe. I have been following your bro's gw and have been thinking about doing one for myself once the 550 is done. cant wait to see what happens with this.

Hey Joe, those bars look like what I put on my GL. Huge difference in handling, control and attitude. A little less comfy for long hauls but at 90+ mph you feel much more in control of the bike. I rode mine from the town my wife is working to work yesterday, it is normally a 2 hour ride but the Highway was empty and I was just cruising, looked down and was doing 110 MPH (175KPH approx) Didn't even realize the bike was soo smooth, I tried that speed with the old bars and it wanted to get into a tank slapper and I had to back off before 100. Looks liek you are taking this girl in the right direction.

Cheers,

Maritime

well, we got into her last night... she is torn down, Sean has penty to work on now... and i will get started on the frame work. Not bad, went from a running bike to torn down in 4 hours. First bike Sean has worked on, but he has years of race car wrenching... my brother came by to lend us a hand and some goldwing knowledge!

Is it done yet? damn you move slow. Col to see you helping out another fellow biker. Can't wait to see what you come up with. Please let it be like one of those cool ass gl's thats floating around.

Man, how awesome would clear covers be over those belt-driven cams.

funny you say that! we may be cutting huge circles in them and adding plexi glass view windows!

There are guys over on ngwclub.com that run without covers at all and say there are no issues. I like your idea of the windows just in case of rain or a piece of something hitting the belt/pully. I assume you will powder the pully's and make em pretty so showing them off would be cool. By the way, change the belts, don't re-use the old ones. they are like 20 bucks each and those are the one thig you don;t want to break on these bikes.

Watching this one closely to see how it turns out. Love these old GL's

YES! Glad I found your thread Joe! This is gonna be kickin! and Maritime is right, more than one guy over on NGWClub runs with no covers at all. I got plans for my "spare" set but thats a secret until I see if it really works. As for the timing belts, he is spot on again, don't re-use the old ones. And the ones at the Honda Stealership could have been setting on the shelf for 20 years... NAPA, Goodyear, and Gates all make the same belt and you know they are rotated stock for CHEAP.
Gonna be watchin for updates!

The only issue I could see would be UV killing the belts early if they are exposed. Rubber and sun don't mix, but if the bike has a home out of the sun wouldn't be too bad. The clear cover idea is cool as you could see the belts and check your timing etc. regularily. I wonder if you could make a mold from the aluminum covers, then a buck to vaccume form some lexan like they do for RC Car bodies. That would be cool, show off the belts and blinged up pullys, but keep out debris.

Cheers,

A wood buck would work just a well and since, I guessing, it's only covering and not containing, 1/8" lexan or other polycarbonate. would most certainly work well. I've vacuumed molded quite a few pieces. When I went to get a sheet of 1/2" poly for a vacuum chamber for degassing silicon the guy asked me if I was using it for bullet proofing :D

HA! Goldwing "purists" are too old to give anyone shit! HA!

I'm seeing more and more of these GW cafe builds and starting to see them on the road. I'll be watching with interest. I've got a buddy who is a BIIIGGG BOY. 6'5" and well over 400lbs, he's been after me to do one for him. He won't pony up the cheese yet though.

Have at it Joe!!
