Soo....do I get some sort of credit for the idea? Like say if I send you my RD400 tank, I get some sort of 50% discount and you can use it for pictures?

That looks nickel-plated, not blued, at least on my monitor...

That's using Oxpho-Blue, which is the stuff I planned to use.

I'm in paralysis by analysis mode...to blue or to fake blue powder coat?

Hey Joe, not trying to steal this idea, but I think I got the perfect tank if you're interested in doing a whole tank some time soon (trying to be riding before april 6th):

it's a huge royal enfield cafe racer tank. straight out of India. here's a pic of it mounted - it's a very similar size to a 1960s Triumph tank:

Re: Gun Blueing the Gas Tank

I stripped the paint off my tank...and discovered a dent that had been repaired with filler...I am pissed.

Re: Gun Blueing the Gas Tank

Well...I took your advice and just did it...well part of it. My gf was getting impatient to go eat (I started at 3 and it took me 3.5 hours to get as far as you see here and I only got part of it done. I had to tape it off and put some penetrating oil on it....hopefully i can blend the rest correctly.

Dent in front...maybe someone can help me with a color scheme to hide it...

Re: Gun Blueing the Gas Tank

Just cut a baseball in half and glue it into the dent.

Dagnabbed neighborhood kids and their stickball games, grumble grumble. :)

Or, get someone to translate "I meant to do that" into Latin, and have it painted on a banner underneath the dent.

no worries at all man i actually walked him though some other sugestions rather than sending it our way. This would save him some money and allow him to cover that dent, however a new tank all together may be the way to go

JRK, I went ahead and did it and figured I'd just worry about the dent later. Paint over it or something. Check the first page for pics.

very nice man!!! you going to seal it now with some clear powder or paint? i would prob sugest a satin clear to keep the raw metal look

Ideally I would like to powder, but there's a filler repair on the other side that will melt. I also just coated the inside with Caswell...

I've heard clear may not stick and metal might rust under it...

I'm tempted to spray 2k over this as I think if left bare it will scratch, do you think spray2k clear will stick?
