Hello from the Philippines!

Hey everyone!

I'm a first time bike owner from the Philippines. I happened to have seen the Ace on a random YouTube video and I instantly fell in love with it. I became obsessed; reading and researching as much as I could about it. Needless to say I was lucky enough to find a distributor not too far away.

Five months riding now and it just keeps getting better. I've already done a couple oil changes, cleaned the carb, check valve clearance, a fenderectomy, etc. I felt ready to do a little more tinkering. After browsing these forums, I decided to order the Stage 1 tune up kit from ooracing. It just arrived a few hours ago, but there's a problem. The air filter fit perfectly, but the jets from the package were way too small. They just slide right in without threading. Also, my engine doesn't seem to have an ERG. At least, I didn't find it where it was described in another thread.

I've read that some other people here have ordered the same kit and was wondering if maybe I was missing something. I haven't replaced any parts; everything is the way it was when I bought it minus an idle adjust.

According to another thread, I have the same stock carburetor as others: Deni PZ26

Great to see another fan.

For some countries the motor and carbs seem to be different. Lets have some pictures :) Both sides of the engine and close up of carb. Oh and the fenderectomy.

Cheers

Welcome to the forum!

I presume your carburettor looks like this:

Have you emailed OORacing about your problem?

Crazy

Thanks! Ah, yes. That exactly what it looks like. I had just received an email from them a minute ago and it turns out I was doing it completely wrong. I don't have a clear understanding of the jets yet. I'm still a little confused, but slowly progressing.

Anyway, here are a few pictures of my Ace:

Sorry. Couldn't figure out the img tag :-\

Cheers!

Sorry. Just know it will improve drastically . Welcome to the group from adelaide Australia.

Thanks, Pete! I'll definitely add that to the list. Any other recommendations? I plan on replacing the rear shocks since the roads here aren't very smooth.

Kamusta xristianos! I'm Fil-Am actually and living in Makati. The place where I got the Ace told me that one other person that lived in Makati had gotten the same bike. Could that be you? ;)

Hi Alex,

Wish it was me but no. I'm in South Aus. You should have a smorgasbord of parts to you. The guys and shops there have a very wide knowledge of chinese bikes/small cap bikes and interchangeable parts. ;)

List of mods can be what ever you want :)

Basic list:
Remove erg (may be done already) - plate on rhs of barrel
Header from ooracin, exhaust from eBay. Make the whole header+exhaust long as the original for top speed.
Iridium plugs
Racing cdi from ooracinf
Remove air box and fit pod filter
You will need to build a new battery box, but I bought a smaller battery and place it under the seat.
- rejet after putting in pod filter.
Possibly lift the needle if you can
25mm bolt spacer in front forks
New fork oil 10w
Aftermarket rear shocks
Need to let run in for 1000km then make changes to sprockets.
Note: only ever make 1 change at a time, if there is a problem, then you know what to reverse or adjust.
New modern tyres! Pirelli or mitchelin.
Check all spokes are tightened
Should be able to maintain 100 no problem, and don't jet it too lean!
The rest is cosmetic changes, possibly weight reducing also :)
Remove starter motor
Replace headlight - removes a couple of kg (black steel mounting frame)
Remove rear mudguard or shorten and smaller tail lights
Clipons - they just feel faster :) and it gets you lower on the tank for less wind resistance.
Oil cooler = run flat out for longer.
Bikini fairing
Go on a diet (easiest way to make everything lighter Lol, I could loose 10kg)

A very comprehensive list from stevodude!

I would like to add a quick action throttle to the list - a major improvement in riding ease.

Crazy

Whew, that list is going to take me a long time to get through. Shopping at Ooracing gets expensive and eBay takes months for shipment. Still excited though!

Actually, I've been having issues with throttle response for months now. If I open the throttle too quickly, the engine dies or at least takes a second or two to kick in. I've already taken out the carb, cleaned the jets, checked the throttle cable, spark plug, fuel tank and looked for vacuum leaks. I'm still at a lost. It happened after I left my bike in heavy rain for a couple hours. Would adding a quick action throttle fix it?

Any ideas?

Cheers!

No changes at all. The throttle response was great a few months ago. I didn't dare tinker since I was completely new to bikes.

But one day, I parked in an open area and went to class. It had rained really hard (like monsoon hard) while I was inside. I noticed the throttle lag once I left the parking lot. At the time, I just figured it had to warm up a bit more or dry off before it would go back to normal, but it never did.

Since then, I've adjusted the idle, cleaned the carb, etc. and installed the stage 1 kit from ooracing hoping it would fix the problem. Still no luck.

Well, the kit did seem to be an overall improvement, but it didn't make a difference to this particular issue of throttle response. Now, I got a much smoother idle and acceleration is better at medium speeds. But if I were to go full throttle from a stop or after a slow right turn, the engine dies or stumbles.

Could I be tuning the carb improperly?

Yeah, I've still got the stock exhaust on there. I'm going to do more research on carb tuning on tinker around tonight.

Anyone know what the factory settings are? I've looked in the owner's manual someone posted on another thread, but I didn't see it anywhere.

Others will know better than me. But I think that rejetting without replacing the exhaust or at least derestricting it (removing the two catalytic converters and drilling out some of the baffling) can lead to poor running.

On the OORacing Stage 1 product description they say...
"We also found opening up the silencer helps."

Probably drowning it. Some example methods to remove cat from exhaust in here If you haven't the cash to order the stainless header and muffler.
