That's awfully close to what's in mine for mine though I've got 40mm Showa forks R1/CBR wheels and an alloy swinger on the shelf waiting to go on. A nice 'burly' roadster.....

Mine is at a point where I can just get on and go. After a loooot on trial and error.

Both are daily riders.

Got mine running sounds nice, but the shitty vacuum petcocks are shot. Gonna replace with the ones from Mikes. I figure $80 for a pair that bypass the vacuum as opposed to $50 to rebuild the crappy ones that will most likely still leak due to a bad design is a better way to go.

curious what year has 2 vacuum petcocks? I swapped my 80 tank (w/shit petcock) for a 73 with the nice old ones. I just cleaned them up and they work fine. I only hooked up 1, just for convenience. the tunnel is not that deep and in an emergency I can slosh a bit over if I had to.

that sounds awesome! can't wait to see it....

Isolato - Where'd you get that seat? Looking for that shape for mine. Wondering if you found it built like that or if you made a pan for it?

I wrapped the frame with plastic wrap and layered up fiberglass. I glassed in a small pc of thin plywood shaped to anchor the front at the tank mount. I used and reshaped a cushion from an 80's klx250 (a very close fit btw) and covered it with a sleve from an old leather jacket. you can just see the cuff at the front, and I made sure the seams were at the sides. Next time I'll try to use a piece of jacket with a pocket. I used silicone caulk to glue the faom, and hot glue for the leather to pan. tab and screw at the rear. very solid, kinda cheap.

Nice ingenuity there!! Jacket sleeve!! Awesome, looks great in the pics. nice work. So, you did make a pan, that's what I needed to know.

It's a 79 Special II.

Well thanks! Turns out I'll be running a par of R1 USD forks and a different swing arm that I'd thought since a certain D-bag defaulted on a contract, I am keeping the parts i oprdered for his bike. Non-refundable deposit is the only way to fly.

oh sorry, yes I made the pan. used the 'basic pan' tecnique. cover the seat area of the frame with saran wrap (stretch it tight) to protect it and keep the resin from sticking to it. lay down a layer of fiber cloth, letting it hang over some, and brush on the resin. it gives you a pan that fits the frame perfectly. after the first layer hardens, you can work on it off the bike. I did about 4-5 layers over several days to get a piece I thought was heavy enough. if you get it uneven, you can shape it easily with an orbital sander and 80 grit. then I trimmed the edges to shape, and stuck on the foam. jammed the whole piece into the sleve, split the leather open at the bottom and glued it to the pan, trimmed off the extra. I used less than 1 fiberglass kit from the auto store WITH some of the heavier weave fiberglass cloth you can get at Lowes. you need the heavier stuff layered in. my first time, dead easy. I figured if I screwed it up, I'd just throw it away and do it again. oh.. and I cut off all seat hinge mounts and latch from the frame first.
