HollywoodMX's xv920/TR1 Cafe super-dupe!

Aaaahhhh ....wrinkle is what I meant....translated it from Dutch instead of using the `normal` term for it..sorry!

As you know now I`m form the Netherlands and eventhough my English isn`t that bad, it`ll never be perfect :(

Keep up the progress on your beatifull build! I`m sure you will find a way to paint these parts in a way you will like in the end.

Smoothrite [ Hammerite product ] direct from the tin [ unthinned ] flows out like liquid plastic !!

MY TR1 cam covers are just going through the same blasting process. However, my plan is to spray them in Wrinkle finish.

We have a commercially available paint here in the UK [ NOT automotive ] that gives a very fine textured finish and doesn't rely on heat, baking. etc. [ like VHT ] to get a uniform and consistent finish.

Sticks like shit to a blanket and isn't fazed by hot, cold, damp spraying condition

Re: small parts vs GBFO blasting equipments - I put all my small parts in an old chip fryer basket and just get the blokes to " spray and shake ".

All that said, I've just invested the best £80 [ $140 ? US ] I ever spent buying a 10 gallon shot / soda blast pot and equipment. We'll see how that one goes.

Wynand - as ever, you Dutch [ and other EU mainland ] peeps embarrass us Brits with your command of our language and our failure to grasp [ try even ] our near neighbour languages.

@beachcomber, my guess is that the Dutch speaking community is such a small group that we just have to learn it all, in high school we get English French and German at least for 2-3 years depending on which sort of school, when we are in Spain or French there are hardly anu people speaking any other language then their own, that`s pretty weird within one Europe, we all have to adapt ;D

That soda blaster you are talking about.......does it spray water also? I use SodaBiCarbonaat and when used on the inside of the engine it gest all the dirt and grease out, but on the outside not very much happens but removing some yellowed old lacquer....but the most annoying are the huge clouds in my DIY cabinet so I can`t see anything. Few months ago I heard about soda blasters with some kind of ring/shower of water around it against that `fog`

@HollywoodMX, Great job on that steering stem, did you use the original stem? love the space you got to do your `thing`and the tools too!

Soda blaster is pure soda - no water - and YES clouds of dust ! It's total loss system - sprayed in the open. No problem as the dust simply washes away with a lawn hose !

There is a coarse soda for commercial use [ as opposed to food prep ] - which is cheaper and will clean the exterior of the engine no probs.

Wow..lots of progress!

I'm getting sick of it not being done to be honest. I'm tired of waiting for my engine so I bought a new 1010cc top end, valve angled, with megacycle street cams to hold me over.. Also I need the weather to change here to paint.

More progress. I ended up redoing the subframe pan, I like it better.

Cleaned up the lower subframe to avoid any contact with other parts and finished welding it.

Started testing different configurations of bracing my frame and realized I need a left hand tap for the tie rods...fak!

I ported the exhaust manifolds because I noticed the rear had a lower velocity because of the manifold constriction . Because I am equal length, I ported the rear pipe more because of more turns than the front.

Ok back from vacation and I got parts!!

It's a bit of a mix of parts. Mostly for the XV tracker but some for this bike too.

The only thing I'm missing now is my new top end and my Ultima custom harness.

The weather still isn't good enough for painting. I might do a diy paint booth. It's 70 bucks an hour though and I like to take my time so I'm not sure.

WOW!! Lot of nice goodies.....next weekend is already filled up!

No kidding! I'm such a douche for doing 3 builds at once. :-X 8)

Well I got a really good quote for powder coating so I'm going to get the sandblasted items coated for xv 1 and 2. The plan is to have everything ready by the end of the week for coating which means I need to make the subframe for xv#2.

I haven't been up to much on this bike as it hasn't been quite warm enough for paint but it looks like next week, plus I have been working on the tracker big time because I need to get the sub frame done for that in order to load everything for powder coating, including the stuff for this bike. I will post the link to my tracker build shortly.

But I did get the carbs looking good!
