Honda CB 360 - Keiryō Café Racer Project

Wow, getting to the good chassis stuff now!!! I can't wait to see what you have planned for the rear sets. I'm not sure of my plans with mine yet other than mounting them at the old passenger mounts. The shifter linkage should be simple enough but I don't know about the brake side yet.

Maybe I should have done this beforehand, but contacted my machine shop guy today if he's got capacity enough to make me spacers to get the swingarm to fit ::)

If he does, I'm in. Will need different shocks though. Need an eye at the bottom as well. But hey, since the KONIs are shot anyways :p Might just test fit my 250's shocks to see where I stand :p

Rear sets... Yeah, probably going to put those on the passenger mounts. Looks slightly bespoke and saves me making an bracket for it. Not that I couldn't or anything ::) Loads of aluminum bar left on the shelf, just don't feel like messing up what looks good already :)

Connecting 'em will be fun too indeed. We'll see when we get there :p

Keiryõ has had some time alone over the past days. Finished up on the 250 Street Scrambler since a couple of rays of sunshine made its way towards the Netherlands.

It was time for the first miles on this fun bike pur sang in its finished state. And boy is she fun!

The knobby tires also make for nice bit of grip on unsurfaced roads... couldn't help myself!

Also went and tested my new Liquid Image EGO action sports cam... note to self, make sure it's properly set before setting off. Didn't notice the camera ended up like this until I came home... 16 minutes later. ::)

Eugene, Oregon seems to be a way away from Eindhoven, The Netherlands. Took 'em long enough, but my rear sets are in.

Couple things; the color. Thought black would look fancy... doesn't. Looks really cheap. So we'll be filing that off. Clear should look loads better.

Second thing I'm not liking about my new received foot controls... the connecting rods. Steel? Come on! How hard is it to add stainless? This'll be flat orange if you as much as think of rain. :-\

Luckily stainless isn't expensive. Probably have some lying around the shop anyways.

Prettier alloy parts had found their way to me to make my day. The Germans have come through... they should, broke the friggin' bank for these but they're sooooo trick!

Fully adjustable and real neat. ;D

Only issue I found is that I haven't got the slightest clue what sort of headlight I want to get. Want it to be a bit modern but not too much... LEDs maybe? Black, that's for certain.

Another day passed and the delivery guy found it's way to my door once again. He rather annoyed asked (well, more or less told me) 'You do order a lot, don't you?'. Have yet to figure out whether his question was retorical or not, since he's the guy that brings my all my stuff... he'd ought to know!

Anyhow! Got my carbon fiber in again! :D

482542_10200307630920750_1055042301_n.jpg

Fresh weave on the roll. Just a meter by half a meter. Should have ordered like three meters, come to think of it. Can never have enough of the stuff.

Also in the mail; my ever favored Renthal firm grips. Look nice, grip well, don't wear to fast. And a second hand Goodridge stainless brake line. For looks and improved braking ;)

69627_10200307631160756_1965861267_n.jpg

Straight fitting at the bottom... for looks mostly. Just looks 'works' somehow. 8)

Do need to get a list of the bolts I'm gonna need. This looks sad... fresh paint, fresh line, rusty bolts.

Then went and put on my coveralls and got cracking with the carbon fiber and resin!

417665_10200307631920775_1293422141_n.jpg

Second layer just on. Got my camera stuck to my hand... :-X

734026_10200307631960776_1247706424_n.jpg

And at the end of the afternoon I could pop the fiber part off the fender and trimmed it a bit.

Will need finishing but I'm happy with how it came out for now! :)

Last but not least;

An aluminum swinger! *O*

549773_10200307632520790_1386654184_n.jpg

Tad longer, loads lighter. I'm gonna weigh it tomorrow, see what sort of weight I'm actually saving here. Will need loads of bushes and spacers to fit in proper. But it will eventually fit! :)

Keep y'all posted!

What swing arm is that from?

Not the slightest clue :p

Came out of a dirt bike. All I know. Emailed the guy who I bought from ;)

Kind of curious where it's from myself :)

Well if you find out I'm sure that I'm not the only one curious about it..

I'll let you guys know :)

Do bear in mind, it's all a gamble! :p It's just another twin shock dirt bike swingarm that wasn't too wide. That's all I was going for.
Not wide enough, I can fix using bushes and spacers. Even if it's loads of bushes and spacers (believe me, it will be). Too wide means milling the swinger which isn't going to be doing rigidity any good...

Tipping me over was the fact that it was a twenty minute drive away and only cost me 25 euros (like 35 dollars), which is next to nothing, right :p

So anyone who wants to give it a go... old RMs and old KZs had alloy swingarms with twin shock mounts and they come cheap. To be fair; if you know someone who can weld properly, steel as well as aluminum, a single shock swingarm would probably be easier to get in.

I just like the set of springs at the rear. Fills it up nicely ;)

Well, here's what I've been able to gather;

It's a swingarm out of a heavy Italian bike. That's all the kid who I bought it from knew... ???

So I guess it's probably out of some old school long forgotten brand 500cc stroker or something. Not at all into dirt bikes, so the tale ends here for me :p

Came up with the daftest of ideas the other day ::)

Titanium Nitride coating the front end... quick look around the web makes me think I'd likely be the first. And I think It'll look crazy cool! :p

I mean RWU front forks in GOLD!

2010-Norton-Commando-961-SE-Wallpaper+1.jpg

Combined with Fauxlins at the rear like on the 250, I think it will really look the part.

What do you say?

I agree, it would look awesome, but you are not the alone in the idea.

Not exactly what I meant! ;)

The inner tubes would be gold in this, not the outers! 8)

Like on this MTB bike's front end :)

The fork leg idea is getting shelved... for now! ;)

Today I actually went and bought a pair of compasses and a triangle ruler, since I hadn't had any since math in high school four years ago. What did I need them for you ask? Well... a friend came over to have a look at the bike and he said quite plainly; 'why don't you drill a couple of holes in the brake disc. It looks heavy, massive and ugly like that'

And to be fair, why didn't I? :p So I did!

181092_10200366590674707_346538515_n.jpg

Now I remember why I dropped maths ::)

Then centerpointed the hell out of the thing.

601982_10200366591034716_1118555131_n.jpg

At this stage I could have picked up a drill sized the way I wanted the hole to be. But the drill I'm using is old, not too steady and I really didn't feel like screwing this up.

So I pre-drilled the whole thing. Small drill first.

208615_10200366590714708_1038052230_n.jpg

Then picked a size I'd probably like... and presto! Three broken drills and half a can of cutting fluid later;

I am not kidding when I tell you that I'm actually pretty proud of the end result here! ;D

601643_10200366591394725_574419844_n.jpg

Looks way better! :) Looking at it now, I don't know why I hadn't thought of the idea before :p

Didn't do much today.

600209_10200384586724597_5184511_n.jpg

Except grinding off the cross bracket. Went and tried the seat out... will be needing bit of extra work befor it'll fit properly.

Second thing I did was sand off the black paint off of the rearsets... yeah, paint.. not powdercoat, not ano, paint... ::)

580514_10200384586604594_612513685_n.jpg

More from me tomorrow! ;)

Had a grave yard shift at work last night causing me to sleep half way through the day :p

Did get a package in though! Recently overhauled, and get this, fully adjustable KONIs for the price of just a overhaul! :)

601296_10200389160518939_1901810157_n.jpg

Nice buy, I reckon ;)

Idea for now is to turn these into a pair of Fauxlins just like I did on the 250 and Titanium Nitride coat the front to get the Öhlins-esque look as well :)

Couple night shifts, working on the bike during the day... no one home to bother me. Works well for me. Coffee machine running at my command and no one asking for errands. Just my-time :)

From the get go, I wanted a lot of titanium on the bike. Nonething says 'race bike' like titanium and carbon fiber. And since the seat is already of the woven carbon, I needed Ti!

First things first. The brake bleeder. Cheap, but not looking cheap :) Titanium!

75063_10200394744098525_1352166420_n.jpg

And also replaced the caliper bolts to finish the look :)

580457_10200399811305202_538357175_n.jpg

Weighing in at 51 grams, the stock bolts aren't heavy. But OE material would cost me 18 euros a piece. For 17,50 euro I had a pair of Titanium bolts in from the UK.

5582_10200399811785214_1809130937_n.jpg

Looks pretty trick to me :)

Then went to the hardware store to get inspired on how to mount the seat... this'll do. Rubber door stoppers.

483832_10200394744178527_2078196179_n.jpg

Frame was portruding out from under the seat so I went medievel on the frame. Pipe bender straight to it!

486475_10200399811345203_2056922199_n.jpg

Pic's pretty blurry but you'll get the idea. This is how the seat is going to be mounted. A total of six bolts through, all supported by door stops.

313476_10200401044776038_641053410_n.jpg

The seat itself wil be foam as used on race bikes. Light and effective. The rubber mount should make things the last bit bearable :p

Tail light tested. Looks pretty okay to me :)

481081_10200401045176048_1237450616_n.jpg

This is the tail light on normally.

74411_10200401044856040_299926153_n.jpg

And with the brake light on.

482389_10200401044936042_1884496607_n.jpg

I'm a happy camper once again.
Also had my valve stem seals in. Popped them straight on... original Honda worked a gazillion times better than the Chinese rubbish I had earlier. :-\

So the engine can get put back together again as well... though I do wanna check out the oil pump ::) Is the main weak spot of the 360, or so I've heard. Just need a tool to get that and well... ::)

We're out for now :p

I'm not in a hurry whatsoever! Back to school in a couple weeks, roadtrip from the east to the west coast of North America in the Summer... yeah, I have no problem not saving money. None whatsoever! ;)

Seat's drilled and provisionally mounted. Will have to find me a couple of neat looking flat headed bolts :p

390192_10200407667901612_1735734209_n.jpg

I also want to extend the swingarm for a bit. Not too much. Thinking 1,5" might just be enough to my liking :)

And since the seat and tank match up this nicely, I'm going to mounting the tank to the seat. Saves me from making another bracket and with a bit of work I reckon the seat will take the job just fine 8)

69860_10200407668261621_37457775_n.jpg

Then to finish off today's work, I slid the valves back in place. This way I can start closing up the motor this week :D

69222_10200407677341848_1026588514_n.jpg

Had some proper weather last week, so I rolled the bike out to have a good look from a distance. I'm liking the view :)

401977_10200417724433019_1973317840_n.jpg

Went and sat back to admire the bike :p

45521_10200417452066210_1322750650_n.jpg

And yesterday I had some time and flat black paint... masking stickers had come in already. So why not give painting the first bit of the tank a go ::)

I'm actually still handy with the paint gun, or so it seems ;D

Oh and I dropped my fork legs off at the coater. TiNitride coating is go! ;)

Heard I just got my clear coat in. Should get the paint finished by the weekend :)

Also gonna clear the seat again. As much as I like the flat finish, I like shiny better! ;D
