Matchless has been one of my favorite motorcycle companies too. Thanks for the suggestions

You should get yourself a Matchless. Often the G9 500cc twins go for damn cheap prices. They have a road-race history too with the G45 racing version of the street engine....

I actually like the first and second round one's
Looks like something from '1984' or 'BRAZIL' ?
Could you try one with Yamaha 'Y' ? ;)

Those look awesome Gahi, and those lines inside the H I was just trying to style it like the pic I put up first. Idk if I like the first one better or 2nd. I like simple a lot but the 2nd one is pretty cool.

Gettin closer, now I think that one I just put up looks terrible

1976cb356, yours is looking good. One thing to think about is actually producing it. Depending on the size, that isn't much outline to work with. If its cut out of vinyl, then I would make the black a solid backing piece, then the silver H would have the detail lines cut out of it so the black would show through.

How big are you thinking of making this?

I kinda get what your saying, but can you explain a little more, sounds like this is important to know. and It would be about 3 inches tall and 3.5 inches wide. Thanks

I guess a good place to start would be the method you want to use to put this on the bike.

Kind of four general options,

1) all vinyl, seperate colors will be additional layers. This provides very true colors and a 7-10 yr outdoor life. On a bike, it would last until you took it off. Its what most graphics are on vehicles.
2) Screenprinted on either a solid or clear vinyl. These are expensive, you have to setup a silk screen for each color. So quantity is the only way to make this worthwhile
3) digitally printed on vinyl. This works for some stuff, but I try to stay away from it unless there is a ton of detail or its a photo. It needs to have a clear laminate over the top so the ink doesn't get worn off. The colors fade quickly compared to the other methods. This is how the full vehicle wraps are done.
4) paint it on using stencils, this is the best way as long as you can find the colors you want and are 100% that its the logo you want. It might not be a do it yourself project, depending on how comfortable you are with it.

So I think the best two are full vinyl, or painted on. cheapest will be vinyl.

If I blow up my 1st design to 3" height, it comes out to 7.5" long and the outline is .094" thick, thats about 3/32". That's pretty thin, but doable. Your outline looks thinner.

With the vinyl you would have to put the black down 1st, and it would be one solid piece. Then the silver down over that, thats where the size of the outline gets tricky. If its too small, your going to have a hard time keeping it consistent all the way around. To make it even harder a gas tank is a compound curve. The best way to handle this is to apply the silver to the black ahead of time on a light table, or a bright window. Then put them both on together. If you end up doing this yourself I can go into it more.

The same thing applies to laying down the stencils for paint, the black would go on 1st, the the next stencil for silver would go on. Its smaller and you wont be able to see the reveal of the out line very well.

I guess my question started when looking at my design and the .050" outline. Its tiny and I wouldn't want to send something like this out for someone to try and install themselves.

Gahi, I was wanting to do vinyl or something like it. I was going to send it to someone and pay them to make some for me, since I don't have a vinyl printer :'( . I would like to stay away from painting them, even tho I have all the paint I need. Because like you said those little lines would be a pain. Is there anything that can just make this in 1 layer, like the digitally printed stuff, but I have seen some bad stuff from those. Like fuzzy lines and discolorment (is that a word?). I am alos going todo the photoshop, GIMP thing were you can select the area and make it whatever size you want. Hopefully it doesn't look stupied. Thanks for your help!!

I had my gauges printed at the ups store and they die cut them. 20 bucks for a few sets.

If you want to stay away from paint, I could send you a set of vinyl ones with the overlay already done. The only trick then will be getting them down straight and smooth. I'm not sure about the gimp method your talking about. Are you talking for overall size? If so scale proportionally to keep it how you have it drawn.

OpTiCz UPS like the shipping co.? I didnt know they did stuff like that.
Gahi: and on gimp theres this thing were u can scale it to whatever width or height. but I am about to mock these 4 inch wide ones that I just made the image strink all together and looks good. I have barely anymore work todo and I think it would be awesome if you made me some, for a price of course.

Yes. They have small proprietor shops. The one by me also does vinyl signs and decals.

Mock up a 4 inch one (too small) and a 5 inch and 6 inch, I thought I was certain on 5 but now the 6 looks good too, I think I will make one 5.5 inches. And ignore my BA marker pinstripes. I am also running some tank grips (pads), If I wasnt I would go with the 6 inch one.
