...while cutting wood on the table saw. Might slow me down for a bit. I was pushing a small strip of curly maple through with a push stick, and I reached around back to pull it clear when it hung in the blade. The wood torqued sideways and sucked into the blade taking about 1/8" of my left index finger with it.
Could have been worse for sure, but such a fucking rookie move, pisses me off.
It was almost worth seeing the doc's face when I unwrapped it. All he could say is "uh, I guess we can clean it". On the whole it isn't so bad. I don't usually take pills unless I have to, but he gave me something to take the edge off. He did say it would be "almost unnoticeable" when it heals. Yeah, right. I'm just glad it was the left hand.
At work one day I tried to catch a falling 2x12 and ended up with four 6" nails through my fingers. When I showed my wife the pics she almost puked. Classic...
Jesus. I watched a stoned shop teacher slice his finger off... He just looked down at it... looked at his hand.. and then said, "uh.. ok... I'ma go to the hospital now..." and just walked away...
Glad to hear your okay thats gnarly and could have been way worse...Reminds me of the time my can opener broke and I tried using a knife to cut open a can didn't go so well and I ended up slicing a nice chunk of my pinkie when i moved my pinkie i could see the bone floating around the thing that got me was all the blood hahaha i almost passed out my old lady got me a can opener that cuts the outside of the can after that!
Eh, it doesn't look that bad. But then a friends Dad was a crime scene photographer for the local Sheriffs office, and we used to look through his old case photos... while eating lasagna
well on the positive side ( if there is one ) it looks as if you kept the base of the nail. Its when you pull the hole thing out that there can be complications later. Mainly your fingernail growing in sideways if at all because the base was contorted under the skin. it may look slightly nubby but glad its not worse man.
nasty looking finger. I have had 25 stitches in my right hand after a couple of occassions. The first was a picture frame glass I punched when I was a little kid (17yrs old) and the glass went through my hand completely. That cost me the feeling in my middle finger. The other you can see in the background photo on my Daily Devil blog, I received by breaking a car window because my two nieces were locked in their mothers car on a hot summer afternoon. I tried everything to get them out before finally breaking the window. I would have spent more time but my one niece was falling asleep and I thought it might be due to the heat so I didn't want her to get a heat stroke.
see the photo in the background, it was only 10 stitches for that one (unfortunately it's pretty difficult to tell).
