Inherited Grandpa's old Bike. Cafe Time!

Clutch switch so the starter wont engage unless the lever is pulled.

To add, it's so you can start your bike in other gears than neutral. The bike will start with the clutch in if it's in Neutral. It won't start in any other gear with the clutch in for...well...obvious reasons :) So if you twist them together, don't start it in gear or she'll jump on you!

Ok so I just installed my new bars and finished running the fresh throttle cables. The bars I am using are significantly shorter than stock and Im using OEM cables. Before I installed the carbs I tested the return spring on them it it had a lot of strength left in it and the cables I am using are smooth as they are brand new. However now that i have installed them there seems to be a lot of restriction . To open the throttle from the throttle grip takes a bit of effort and when I release the throttle, it takes 3-4 seconds for the throttle to return to their original positions. Whats going on?

Check out motionpro and get the right length cables made. The throttle should snap right back, and a 3 second delay could be super dangerous. There is just to much bind in a bend from the bars being shorter.

Not sure if its relevant, but Before I had disassembled this bike, it was having the same issues even with relatively free cables, strong spring and stock cables.

Unfortunately, I looked a while back, and there weren't any already made shorter cables for a cb550 on the market that I could find

are you sure the twist grip isnt binding ? is the plastic throttle tube good? is it dragging out at the bar end ?

and the cables need gentle arcs, no s turns and they need to float, natural like, not secured tight on the run to carbs

nothing beats fresh cables, you can run all the cleaners and lube em with astro glide if you want but buy a set of freshies and ;D ;D

WFO/WFC cables work the best... jus sayin

Also if you call Motion Pro, they will make up a set for you at any length you desire.

Ok guys, I'm working on installing my new controls. The wires, I thought, were mostly color matched to the stock wires so naturally I started snipping and splicing away. Now I have an issue. I have sets of wires on each side that need to be paired correctly because the colors arent matching up. Im not in a hurry to fry my electrical system so this is what I have.

The first picture is from the right side control. The new controls leave me with an all black and a black and red wire. The bike is giving me two all black wires.

The second picture is the left side controls where the new controls are leaving me with red and black wire and a black and brown. The bike is leaving me a red and brown wire and a blue and brown wire.

HELP!

Also that clutch cable is binding right at the perch... not good really, might try another rout.

You should download a wiring diagram for sure. It will show all of your connections. Brown, for example, sends power from your handlebar switches to the rear lights.

I have a wiring diagram, I think the new switch I purchased however has the wires color coded incorrectly. Im working with the seller now to figure it all out.
