MotoFiaccone Bob--Feb 2011 update

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob--Oct 2010 update

If you get it too hot, it will harden. Not the best idea for a seat.

Re: MotoFiaccone Bob--Oct 2010 update

Sorry, left a bit out in my haste but saddle leather will do that anyway left to it's own, especially when weathered. To avoid that where it needed flex I used a solution of 70% neatsfoot oil and 30% isopropyl rubbed in til it's saturated whilst still wet from the boiling. I imagine you could simply boil it in oil but that's rife with it's own dangers.....

OMG Chris, i love where you are going with that exhaust... gotta be pricey though! Would you do customer pipes in Ti?

If this is what unemployed looks like, I've got to get me some of that :)

This thing's looking killer! looking forward to seeing you soon so we can talk about Titanium

Parts are starting to trickle in. The Ti block I bought ended up being shipped from Israel of all places. I suppose I should have checked that closer. So when that arrives, It's off to Swagger for machining, which sucks because the rest of my Ti arrives next week. Thought it doesn't really matter because I have to whip out a customer exhaust first.

I'm still waiting on my fork seals and tapered steering bearings. I have no idea why those are taking so long to get here, though all the snow didn't help. And a tiny K7N should arrive soon. But the coolest thing by far are these old Italian grips. By old, I mean circa 1960, and the rubber shows its age. The even came in the original packaging. I think they will work nicely with the bike. Well-excited!

That's all for now. Thanks for looking.

Geeze man those grips look like what we're usually ripping off and throwing away! ;-)

have you checked out battlescooter.com ? they have some great grip options as well!

And fin! After weathering a few days through snow and ice, the seat got a couple days sun tan. It then got a dye goopy coffee (regular and 'bucks Via) and strong tea. This was followed by a satin sealer and some saddle soap/conditioner. Alas:

Truly beautiful brother... If the rest of the bike is half as tough, it will be amazing. Should look even better after a little butt wear!

Any updates on this bike?? Looking fabulous so far, can't wait to see follow up pics.

Hi Michel:

I've just sent out all my titanium bits out to be machined. When they come back, I'll have an exhaust flange, and exhaust holder thingy (the bit that holds the exhaust to the head) and two end cans for the silencer. I have the 1.5" Ti tube that will make up the silencer coming this week, so things are moving along.

The challenge I have right now is getting my 1" Ti tube cut into pies. I don't have a bandsaw or a cold saw, which I think is what is required. I'd honestly like to pay someone to cut them for me, but...My wife is out of town this weekend, so I may just buy a band saw. I really don't have room for it in the garage, but it will take her a while to figure it out. IDK. I think I'm going to make a prototype in aluminum or steel so I don't screw up $100 worth of Ti.

I'm also having some stainless machined for the headlight. I have a really great idea (to me anyway) for the headlight, which I may have time to work on this weekend.

This is the bloke doing the machining: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=20106.120 Finding folks willing to machine Ti is a nightmare. Swagger would have done it for me, but he got hurt and I got anxious to get the job rolling.

Absolutely, buy a band saw! I just like the idea of hiding stuff from your wife. "I got it at yard sale honey, honest. I know what a deal, brand new in the box for $50!!"

When you talk about cutting the metal into "pie" shapes that is to create the cone, correct? be sure to get some pics of all that. good stuff.
