Re: My CB360 barn find *Opportunity...*
OK, so i am going to preface this long post with this. Thank you so much everybody who helped me, and please..please dont hate me.
Many of you know this was my first bike build. I made several mistakes along the way and with the help of a lot of you i was able to turn out something that i think really looked great. I had some experience before this build wrenching on old cars specifically old British cars. I had an original MINI that was right hand drive with the bonnet stripes and driving lights, it was amazing. I really wanted a MGB GT and found the perfect project but the guy sold it as i was on my way to pick it up. so i found an old triumph spitfire instead i paid 200 bucks for it and compleatly re did it. It was a fun car but not exactly what i wanted. I have a thing for small cars i always have particularly the MGB GT, not sure what it is, i just love them. One thing i learned with my MINI however is do not pass up a great deal. In 2009 I traded my 2001 VW GTI straight across for the little mini cooper. the VW was worth about 4,500. when i got the mini it was in fantastic shape but it was a little plain looking. i added the hood stripes and the fog lights and a euro license plate and it looked the part. I really loved it, I told my self i would never get rid of it unless somebody paid me a STUIPED amount of money for it. so just to see what would happen i threw it up on craigslist with a price tag of 13,000. I kinda hoped nobody would buy it because i loved it some much. But i was getting ready to get married AND buy a house, it didnt take more than a few days for a guy to ask me for a test drive in the mini. the next day i had 12,000 and no more mini cooper (i drove it to his house and parked it next to he personal helocopter). That got me another car and a down payment on a brand new home in utah. It was the right choice. ever sicne then i have put the nicer things i have on craigslist waiting to see if there were any opportunities i was missing. A great guy named troy shot me a text message the other day that said "would you be interested in trading your bike for this?" and lo and behold a sweet little MGB GT. i about pooped a gold brick i was so excited. I called him right away and told him everything about the bike and confessed my obsession for MGB GTs. I showed him this build thread and it only took about a day for us to work up a straight across trade.
OK for those of you still reading, thank you. im sure some of you got pissed off and left already. While i am SUPER happy with my MG, i'm really worried that most of you guys were gonna hate me now. I felt like i made some real friends on here. and i hope i can still maintain those friendships. I hope nobody feels like i betrayed them. as long as i am welcome i would still love to be a member of DTT and i will do my best to help out people on here with CB360 projects or anything else i can help answer for anybody with questions.
Lastly, i know DTT is a cafe racer/brat/bobber forum, but its really kinda more of a builders forum. I sacrificed a lot of blood sweat tears and time creating my bike, and i am really proud of what i built, but Troy sacrificed a freaking rad little sports car to join the cafe racer scene, and i totally respect that, He knows what he got, i didnt try to hide anything from him, there is still plenty of project let in the bike and i look forward to seeing him add the stuff i didnt get to. I hope you guys will be as friendly and helpful to him as you have been to me. He is ready to get his hands dirty and join the ranks.
id like to keep this thread positive so if you guys have anything negative to say please pm me instead. I hope i get a chance to build another bike, i had a great time with this one and i feel like i did a good job with it. i will leave this thread with a few pictures i was going to send to iron and air, they offered to do a story on my bike i dont really feel like i deserve to be featured in the magazine anymore.. cheers to you all.
