need help recreating this INSPIRATION bike

Yup. Seen a few different setups. My favorite (ill try and find pics) is when the 3 rail backbone, is replaced with a large diameter pipe (3" or so) and the backbone is used as the oil tank. Some serious fab work is needed for thet setup though.

Bah! Just gotta choose your battles that's all.
You could likely make that tank work, but you'd need to weld in the tunnel from a stock tank, which means cutting the bottom out.
Dunno if you're up for that or not. Now depending on the tank you chose you may be able to straddle the center spar and sit 'on' the outer spars. Don't know for certain on that. However.....you're not suck by using the stock tank, it just means you have to get creative. I have seen other tanks swapped onto that frame.

you're kidding right?

im starting to. seems everything thats made, is built for a sohc model. this is my first bike, and im no welder. yes, i can find someone to help, but it seems this is goin to be harder then expected.

everything made for? You posted a one off bike that is your inspiration and you're looking for an easy answer to modifying a bike. There is no easy way...everyone on here has worked hard. Lots of people on this forum don't weld and yet managed to make some really cool stuff. Work with what you can and pay for what you can't.

You can do it man. I'll just add my two cents which is when you have an inspiration bike you can make anything that captures the spirit of the build but without making every detail similar. Work with what you got (especially the frame as that's the hardest part to change, in my opinion).

You can do it just be flexible and take your time. I don't know how many parts I've fabbed up for my bike and decided to toss them cause they weren't quite right.

Just take your time and don't try to force things either mechanically or aesthetically and you'll be ok. Good luck man.

take the above advice. And also look around for cb750's so you can get some inspiration, rather than looking at twins or singles with a single spine.

What sucks, I didn't know this bike didn't have just a single spine. Poor research. Finding a tank to look good on there, is going to be tough. Deff not the most attractive frame exposed.

My XS11 has a great big double rail frame. I've sometimes dreamed of seeing how two small tanks side by side would look.

ill have to look and see what a cb550 tank looks like on the 750. im sure someone has done this swap before. i see most guys arent runnin speedos. it looks 100% better without, but i feel more comfortable havin one. would it be possible to get a mini speedo and mount it in front of the tank? if i were able to slide the tank down the rail some, that would leave a small area up front.

dual tanks? photoshop that up!

link goes to nothing, you're going to have to host the pic yourself if you still have it. Use tinypic

thanks for the fix Fix!

Tommygun, that's just a peanut tank. Look at my thread, I have the same style tank:

http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=19124.0

It's still a single tunnel width so it will sit on top of the spars on your frame, but since it's a flat bottom tank it probably pulls the look off better than the mustang or alien tanks that lowbrow has. Mine is just a cheapy generic chinese made one that can be found on ebay, or you can go to lowbrow and pick their up.

thanks for fixing the link FIX!

pawn- the tank doesnt look to bad sittin up on the rails like that. i took off my stock tank tonight and the previous owner had re routed his wiring all over the place under the tank. oh man. i should probably get a schematic to do the wiring. i dnt want to tear it comepletely apart, but by the looks, i might have to. i also need to get the clymers for this bike. there is some much wiring, tubes, shit everywhere. so "overdone" i think.

bigger than what though? It's got the clevis style mounts which I actually like better since they are easier to make sure it's totally solid (4pts of contact vs only 2.) The only issue with this one, is if your top tube is angles downwards you loose some gas because of where the petcock bung is.

Bigger as in more gallons. Should I go with a smaller tank to fit on the downtube since its so small. I should measure that in comparison to these tanks. I want it slid further down towards the seat, but I know that's not possible cuz of the frame set up.
