new cafe build cb450

i used the duplicolor low gloss black engine enamel, it doesnt say much about baking the parts, im sure it will bake once i fire it up, but i have been thinking about tossing em in an oven with the smaller parts before i officially seal things up. cant complain everything turned out pretty good, its really just the prep work that needs to be perfect.

ok fellas i have a question and need some advice, so the top triple clamp came last night for the 07 gsxr front end, and im debating whether or not i want to get the conversion bearings, or swap the cb stem into the upper and lower triples..

heres the thing.. if i dont swap the stem, looks like the gsxr stem is too long, so i would need to have it cut, re threaded and get the conversion bearings?

if i do swap the stem, i can run the factory sized bearings, but the bottom would have to be pressed in, and the top clamp would need some sort of spacer made for it because the diameter is smaller than the gsxr stem so the top clamp would need a sleeve of some sort as well. this making sense? any thoughts from you front end swappers would be appreciated!

hoping this will draw attention to my thread in order to get some answers, i see people floating around this site all day!!!

If I understand your predicament, I would have the stock stem pressed into the new lower, then have the appropriate bush made if needed. Seems like this would simplify potential future bearing replacement, too.

I don't have this option as my stem is welded in...

You may not have the option to swap the stem. On my Honda (and I'm going to assume yours is the same as Hondas tend to share a lot of features between the models) the stem is part of the lower triple. You're stuck with it.

Ah thanks for the insight fellas, yes it does look like one piece so I might have to use the gsxr stem.... Guy puts one set of tits on his thread and gets all the info he needs!

Nice bike.

That was a steal on the gsxr front clip. I've always wanted to do a front end conversion, it just seems like a headache. I'll definitely keep my eye on this one.

yeah the guy who sold me the stuff was real nice, he goes "do you have rotors yet?" "no." "oh well here you can have a set, i was just gonna toss em out anyways, oh and here is the steering damper for it as well, you can just have this stuff." what a guy!

this has nothing to do with my bike, but just an awesome build and gives me ideas and inspirattion about my own build.. check it

ya man that bike is legit, i already knew i wanted to do a xv when i saw the twisted xv750 thread on here, i made a rookie move and passed on a xv that was for sale in my area, was the whole bike minus the front forks and tire.. it was like 400 bucks for the whole thing, and it ran.. FML!

FINALLY got the rear swingarm in the mail today, almost 3 weeks later after supposidly having problems at the post office. but its here, so i was happy, got some picture updates of the swingarm mocked up on the frame, as well as the gsxr front tossed on it as well, obviously just throwing crap together to get it to look like a bike, but im glad i did, was refreshing to see something resemble a motorcycle again.. will be ordering the all balls conversion bearings for the stem today, and sealing the motor up tonight for good, then onto frame modification. enjoy.

also thinking because i am now going black and gold theme, ill be on the market for an ohlins rear shock, powdercoat the spring black so its just all black and a nice gold reservoir. next big project once the motor is finished will be getting the front hub modified and getting that to mount up in the front forks, then picking up some supermoto rims and sending them out to get laced up at buchanan.

Well the cam link came tonight and I pressed it into place but it appears we may be a link off on the crank from top dead center, it's off a little bit counter clockwise when the cam marks are dead on... Anybody have advice for this issue? The engine spins around freely with no contact or anything, but I'm assuming this Is an issue that needs to be addressed... Any help would be appreciated!
