New XS750 (Triple) Project **UPDATE 3/29/11 with pictures!**

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

Update: the project is going much slower than anticipated, but parts are finally starting to arrive!

I split the crankcase, and it and the cylinder heads are off at the powdercoater right now

Got some rearsets and controls from DCC, and a gasket set from partsnmore.com (95 bucks shipped, includes ALL gaskets and o-rings needed for a full rebuild. I was quite impressed)

All the engine internals are sitting in assembly oil wrapped up waiting to be put back in the case. More updates when I start getting parts back from the powdercoater!

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

Looking nice. Can you post up pics on how you install the rear sets? I've seen r6 rears on these and they look okay but not great. That is one dirty engine.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

yeah, the engine is filthy, thats one of the reasons i broke it down. I'm thinking i'll mount the rearsets off of the passenger peg mounting brackets. If you take the brackets off, there isnt enough clearance between the rearset arm and the frame. I'll post pictures in the next week or two.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

Unless your tall one of the guys have said that moving them back to the pass mounts was a little too far.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

"mocked up" the rearsets today, seems like they'll work. The brake side is going to need to be mounted under the brake arm for clearance purposes, but I was planning on doing that anyway like so:

And the shift side has about .5cm of clearance with a full 360 degrees of rotation. The position that I will be in is fairly close to where I want to be. If anything, I'm still a little bit crunched up.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

That looks perfect. Where did you get the mounting from? It looks like the bracket off the 850.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

I found em on ebay, heres a set for 35 bucks in really nice shape (also the only set i could find). I paid about 25 for mine, but the way i think about it, its a hell of a lot cheaper than 300 bucks for tarozzi/r6 rearsets. Keep in mind, my frame is a special. I'm not sure if they will fit on the standard xs750's without some frame modifications.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

Anyone know a good website to find brake and shift arms for the xs750? I have all the rearset parts except those two pieces.

Re: New XS750 (Triple) Project

Long overdue update!

FINALLY got the frame back from powdercoat, looks great. Did a satin black PC, turned out fantastic. Big thanks to the guys over at grandstand designs in Metuchen, NJ.

Painted some small bits, here's primer:

Followed by 2 coats of color and 2 coats of satin clear:

I also did alot of stripping aluminum parts with the intent to polish, but i like the raw unpolished look. The parts look a little dirty, thats just grease left over from my dirty mitts:

Any feedback anyone? Looking to get the thing back in one piece in the next month or so.

Update! I'm getting SO close to finishing this damn project! Haha all I have left to do is check valve clearances, finish up the wiring, wrap and mount the exhaust, and then fire her up! Yes, the paint on the seat and tank look off, thats just the lighting, its actually very close in real life.

I thought that too, but believe it or not thats the way it is supposed to be mounted, its printed right on the tire.

Rocketman, here are the images of the rearsets.

Juggernaut, to be honest I'm not sure where the fork brace came from, the PO had it installed with the bike when I bought it. When I'm out working on it next ill look for some sort of brand or something and get back to you.

they are the loaded gun universal rearsets from dime city city cycles. The linkage is from them as well, and the shift and brake arms are from fastfromthepast.com. The mounting brackets theyre on are stock on the bike, they are where the passenger pegs would normally go.

Yes, but I plan on using the electric starter motor most of the time. 3 cylinder 750cc is no easy kick, but if the starter motor dies, all I have to do is remove the rearset (its just one bolt holding it on) and I have plenty of clearance.
