"new" Yamaha xs750 project

Glad to see someone else has the triple fever! Looking forward to seeing your progress. Here's a pic of the XS I'm finishing up...

Nice!!! you mind telling me where you got that seat? Its perfect! Guess I should update my build. Got everything off except the front forks, drivetrain and wiring. Wiring is particuarly troublesome, the connectors are pretty warn out and disentigrate as soon as you try to pull them apart. Ordered another one I found on ebay, hopefully, that should get me along. Again, shacknasty, sweet bike! Hopefully mine will look something like that in a few months.

Yo Koco, that is a pattern seat I made with a piece of plywood, foam and part of an old jacket just to see how it looked. I'm making a proper steel seatpan that I'll cover with diamond quilted leather.

Still gotta weld on some brackets for the seat and tail piece. She was a great runner as a stock bike, looking forward to running her in again. I have had this one for a few years before the cafe, and a XS11 since '89. I have a feeling you're gonna like yours!

I've seen a few other folks on here doing the Yammie triple route. Enjoy the build and do it right. You will be glad ya did when the open road gets twisty.

Thanks, I plan on getting this thing done by the middle of the summer. Another question, did you just use the stock bars? It looks like you just turned them down and flipped them. Also, are you using the stock foot pegs?

Those are clubman bars that I'm gonna cut about an inch or so off of each end, narrow it up some more. Can't be too skinny when yer splittin' lanes for fun. Stock pegs. Can't really enjoy the riding position on most bikes with rearsets. I feel pretzelated after a long ride.

Now get to wrenchin'!

got the wiring out just today, along with the front forks and triple clamp, and rear drive...getting closer to getting the motor out, that should be fun. Almost time to take everything to get stripped/painted.

P.S. Watch your thumbs around jackstands, they will eat them alive and spit them out with black nails.

Lay the bike on it's side and lift the frame off. ;)

hey koconut tried to attach the manual but it is to large of a file for the server. If you get your email working shoot me your address and i will email it to you.

It's cool, I got the manual already and I was able to find a downloadable version for my computer. good looking out though. Just got off the phone with the DMV, haha...most expensive part of getting this bike running will be registering it, so laaaaame.

Dmv said it was going to be like, 550 just to register  title says it hadn't been registered since 02 or 03, can't remember.

Well, as long as you don't live in the peoples republic of california you should be ok. Otherwise, registration is going to hurt. :-\

Hey Koco, here in Cali after 7 years it drops off the reg and you register it like new. If yours is old enough it should only be about $100. If the DMV worker tries to screw ya, get back in line and go to a different window. Or have AAA do it for ya. Easy peasy Japanesey...

Ok I'll try that, thanks. The only thing is I called up AAA and they said reg doesnt drop off until like, 20 years. I'll give it a shot with another window next time though.

Just ordered a TON of parts(and a new helmet, since I couldnt pass up the deal)and am finally getting a proper workbench to tear down the engine, which has been holding me up. As soon as my seat gets here, i can mock that up and cut off what i need to. Then rebuild the forks, put on the new clubman bars that are on the way and mark what to cut and not cut off the frame, then its going out for sandblasting. Think I'm just going to paint it, not powdercoat. Start on the engine teardown when the frame is out, prob rebuild the calipers and get some new lines too. If anyone knows of any tips or deals for brake lines or help with wiring, I would greatly welcome it. wish me luck!!
