"new" Yamaha xs750 project

yeah, the shocks eye bushings are a bit bigger than the mounting studs. I will have to fit some sort of sleeve to take up the room. Prob go to autozone or something, no big deal. I saw your posts and replied on the triples site. Your bike is going to be pretty colorful! I will def remember to install the engine from the left. Whenever that may be, I need to split the cases and will prob end up doing a complete rebuild and powdercoat. I wish I could post pics directly on the forums, but my camera is hd or something and every pic it takes is like, almost 2mb and I dont know how to compress them. I was able to put them on flickr, so if you click the link, you could see all the pics I took. Sorry, I hate clicking on links too.

I upload massive pics up to Photobucket and it automatically compresses them to 800x600. Makes everything really easy. There is also an app for my android phone so I can upload w/o a computer.

you were right. Flickr does it too, thanks for telling me. Heres some pics.

Wow thats bright, looks like you did a great job on the paint! Are you going to break it up with some stripes or anything?

I don't know about a stripe yet, I think it will be broken up enough onnce I get the seat pad/cover. But I think I will be painting the gas cap black to break up the gas tank a little

Ok, so, has anyone ordered new parts from bike bandit? I ordered oem parts from them like, over a a week ago and they haven't even shipped yet.

I've had good results before. You really want to stay away from Old Bike Barn. Give them a call and see what's going on with your order. Some places don't like to let you know their parts are out of stock and delay the shipping.

'Update' slowly and surely getting everything mounted on the frame. Rebuilt the rear master cylinder. Calipers were in some pretty rough shape, found a giant spider that decided to make its home in one of the front caliper pistons. Web material everywhere. Have them soaking in some pinesol/water trying to free up the pistons and strip off all the old paint. Started the rebuild of the carbs using the pinesol method. Pinesol worket great, but I ordered carb rebuild kits for a 1977 2D. Different carbs on my 1978 E. So now I'm waiting for new carb kits.

Sound good. I waiting on parts as well from ebay. The seller sent the wrong items. Have fun with the carbs. Don't forget to look for broken tips on the idle jets.

Yeah, ii already found a piece of the idle needle in one of the seats. Went to replace it with the kit and...didn't fit because I ordered the wrong ones. Now I'm also waiting on ebay. Hey juggernaut, how diid you work your calipers? Did you rebuild them? I'm thinking of just going with brand new ones from mikes xs

I am rebuilding them completely. I needed 2 new piston and 3 rebuild kits. Kind of insane, but I can say they are original, i guess. I need to order 2 pistons still and am waiting on the rebuild kits and pads now.

Cool, just got the pistons out. Think I will just keep these calipers too, just ordered the rebuild kits. Pistons seem ok, there is minor pitting but its all above the seal. Still lookinng for an engine rebuilder

just got the carbs rebuilt and rejetted. ;D I'll throw up some pics of my calipers, also freshly rebuilt with new seals and repainted. Found an engine rebuilder close by too, said he'd do it all for 600-700 bones including machine work and parts. Got most of the forward control installed. Need to think of an effecient way to route everything with the new bars. Pretty much everything else is done, just needing one small detail...the engine!

Thought id ask anyone following this thread. Anybody have any experience mounting a glass seat to the frame? Im having a hell of a time finding rubbers to cushion it too. My main concern is that the seat will crack from stress if it isn't mounted right. Thanks for any help you can give.

I built my seat to accomodate the stock rubbers, but that only worked after my 3rd attempt. Before that I looked at attaching rubber furniture mounts with Gorilla glue. You can get them in large enough sizes for just a few bucks and trim them down if they are too big.

Might give that a try.
Just dropped off the engine to get bottom end rebuild and cylinder honing. should be no more than 500, which is a lot less then I though it would be, so I'm stoked about that. Should be running in a few weeks. Finished the brakes so the frame is complete, just awaiting the engine and harness/battery box.

OK, havent posted in awhile but I assure you the bike has been progressing. First, engine has been reassembled and installed in the bike. Found a brand NOS wiring harness, installing in the bike now. New MAC 3-1 exhaust. New seat foam. New rearsets (stole some brand new Raask rearsets for under 100 bucks, I love you ebay). New LED taillights and signals. At the moment, I'm still trying to sort out the wiring, sucks since I keep running out of daylight. Anyone done an exhaust wrap?

Dont know if anyone is still following, but heres another update. Bike is out getting the head redone. Guy I had do it the first time didnt do it right, so I got my money back but taking more time to get another guy to do it has been a pain. In the mean time, I got bored today, so I painted my seat and side covers. Also installed some seat padding and my taillight/turnsignal/plate holder. Will post some pics below along with how she's looking so far.

waited too long to edit, but the seat foam will not stay that way. It will be covered with some vinyl. Side covers are same color as the seat, crappy cell pics.
