Saying that I have been rather impatiently waiting for this years festival / GTG is an understatement. Now I really can't fuckin wait!!!

I'm good at standing around and giving my opinion.

And dodging helmets....

Should have been planning it anyways, shitheel.

My couch you would be sleeping on in July is currently burning in my backyard. You'll be sleeping in the basement next to the cat boxes now.

I'm signed up for thus idea too. Flug - make up a grocery list of parts you want/need and I'm sure we can all contribute. I have a couple gas tanks, Honda speedo / tachs, etc laying around.

I will not make it to Barber, but I have faith that this group of folks can get it done.

Justin you just think you are not going to be there.
By the way, you wouldn't press charges for kiddnapping would you?

Alright, I started a new thread to discuss the rebuild project here: http://www.dotheton.com/forum/index.php?topic=36857.0

Again I want to thank everyone for the kind wishes and offers of support.

I want to close this thread with a couple thoughts or lessons learned or things I knew, but apparently didn't know well enough.

1) Wear the best protective gear you can afford and feel comfortable in. If you can't afford the fancy icon carbon fiber helmet, get a good cheap one. My $40 hand-me-down KBC helmet saved my noggin. I highly recommend a full face helmet as well. I recently splurged and got a nice armored leather jacket. I think it was only about $180 at leatherup.com which is about the same as a good non-armored jacket. It isn't racing leathers, but It protected me while I tumbled down a bunch of rocks.

2) Always ride within your comfort zone. Unless you are learning to race, I think this is good advice. I even gave this advice to Jewbacca at the GTG last year, but I apparently didn't listen to myself. Though we ribbed him about riding slower than the rest of us, he was smart and did not push himself into a situation he could not get out of. You can still become a better rider while staying in your comfort zone, because with more experience, your comfort zone will expand.

3) DoTheTon is an awesome community of fellow garage builders who freely give out their knowledge, support and friendship. Though the forum has grown VERY VERY large recently, there is still a group of core contributors that actively participate and make this place what it is (or at least what it is to me). I'm not saying that the newer people are not or can not be part of the "core group of contributors". All they have to do is participate in the community as these others have done.

My painkillers are wearing off. Time for some more.

:)

Wow, I wish I had awesome buddies like you all seem to be. I'm a noob stuck trying to figure out how to build my bike without any help (other than what I can read online), and it totally sucks sometimes. It's really cool you're so willing and able to help each other out. Super freaking awesome, it's really cool to see stuff like this!

Well... Launch yourself and your bike off a cliff. We'll help ya rebuild. Haha... Just kidding of course. Where do ya live? Im sure there are DTT members near ya that would lend a hand.

What mike said. And this forum should be plenty of help. I learned almost everything I know about motorcycles either from this forum or from members of this forum.

I'm in Petaluma up in Northern California. Everything I know about motorcycles I learned from DTT, or just getting in there and getting my hands dirty. There are still some things that are totally beyond me though, like wiring and the inside workings of engines. I'd still love to learn how to weld too. That would solve a bunch of dilemmas I've had. But, this site has been awesome, and with the exception of a couple instances, everyone seems pretty cool.
