I believe I got two 69 cams myself one in Triple six and another on the shelf which Im hoping to put into the Brat Style ride.
Boom got the sweet ass good looking hell of a cam chain tensioner from yours truly.....LOL... sorry just being proud. Can't wait to see more pics Boom keep it going. Man I still love that hardtail frame of yours.

oh crap, for some reason I was thinking about the cam chain guide! Ya, the teflon tensioner came from imoale! If you order one from cmsnl or servicehonda it will be a rubber wheel.

And ya, wee todd youve got a wealth of knowledge there. Sometimes I can hardly understand you, but I guess its worth it to decipher your craziness!

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Painting the case right now. Pics will be up a little bit later. I also picked up some of that high heat clear. Autozone didnt have satin but then I thought about it, and I agree with jrk; gloss clear on media blasted metal will look sick.

edit: heres a pic. I was trying to figure out how to paint the motor in one stage (multiple coats of course) since I dont have a engine stand. I really didnt want to paint half the motor, wait a week for the paint to completely setup, then flip the thing over and paint the other half. In hindsight I should have just stuck some metal rod or some long bolts through the engine mounts and strapped it up that way. But really I dont think putting the engines weight on these parts will do any harm.

edit2: the bin with old rags in it isnt my dirty laundry, I was a little worried about how stable the straps would be so I had it sitting under the motor so that it wouldnt fall straight to concrete from 3 feet in the air.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

You don't need a teflon tensioner, I installed stock Honda tensioner parts(new) several years ago,Fitting the Bore Tech tensioner might require releiving some material in the cylinder cavity to make it fit properly.Keeping the cam chain adjusted is important,an easy trick is too remove the auto advance, locate the small pin on the camshaft, rotate the engine so the pin is at or about the 4 o'clock position on the cam bushing, there will be no tension on the chain.reassemble the ignition and make a reference mark on your advance unit and the cam bushing, set your adjuster.Tanks for da complimints ;D I learned by asking alot of questions and reading the service manual,,,over and over ::) if any of you are rebuilding a cb 350 motor,I have a better way to adjust valve clearance when you reassembling the motor,,,if your interested!!

I think Todd's english is improving.... ;D

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Takin notes..... thx Todd will hit u up on that one soone getting close.

The Teflon tensioner isn't really to improve anything its cuz I could do it for $25 bucks vs $70+ at honda.

Looking good Boom. Waiting to see the clear on the top end before I make a choice on mine.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Im not familiar enough with the way these things work to stray from the clymers manual much. Maybe on my next rebuild Ill give it a shot though.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

huge brag:

My friend is an artist and his friend, and aquantance of mine, has a studio. This guy does industrial sculptures or whatever you call it. So now I have several media blasters, possibly a lathe, possibly a plasma cutter, definitely a mig welder, ect at my disposal. Ill be going over there on sunday to blast some things.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Yeah nothing like being in good with the local shops. I go over and walk around and help out or giving ideas. Learn all sorts of stuff that way too.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

dude if he does metal fab i would love to speak to him... doing round bar inserts on my tank and fenders would be insane... does he braze? or other types of fill? maybe i can send a bit of work his way

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Joe, Im going to test the waters on sunday. Hes a really chill guy, really friendly, but I dont want to impose. So Ill see how much interest he shows in my project, and also gauge his interest in doing some work on the side. If hes not really into it, but is just being cool with me using his shop, I dont want to push it, yanoe? But Ill see what I can do.

On another note, where do I buy media? How much should I be looking to buy to blast the top end and a few other parts, and what should I buy?

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

i like to use black dimond sand... i order it online... either that or you can go pick some up at tiger coatings... McMasters also has a ton of media... the prices are all over the place depending on what oyu want... if you are not going to powder just paint you wil be fine with a more course media like bead

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

ok, good to know. Ill probably end up getting a bag of bead then.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

dude find out if he wants some side work... i could really use some welding done on my rear fender on my harley to fill in my stock tail light spot on it... let me know if he is up for it... i can do all the grinding and painting and all that... just need the welding done up

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

what is this McMasters you speak of? I want to try and media and paint the rest of the engine on sunday, so Id like to pick up some sand tomorrow. I found tiger coatings through google, but I wanted to see if McMasters was a bit closer.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Probably McMaster Car I get alot of stuff from them for my fabrication projects everything from nuts, bolts, foam, just about anyting they heve a kick ass online catalog/

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

http://www.mcmaster.com

Loads of stuff, and they ship quickly. It can be a little overwhelming at first because there are so many products.

keep the posts coming.

Cheers

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

i buy from them all the time!!! there is a place local to us man! look it up the addr will be there... awesome stuff and top quality tools!!

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

Ok, Ill check them out. I bought some media from harbor freight on saturday and went by the shop yesterday. However the kid couldnt find the mask and also he recommended I get a finer grain. I had bought some 80 grit aluminum oxide. He said it will tear right through the aluminum. Also he suggested that I really tape the shit outta the pieces as it will eat right through tape as well. So Im going to spend a lot of time taping off all the pieces this week and see about getting some 120grit or so media.

Re: Not only my first project bike, but my first bike period!

you will be cool with 120... all harbor freight media sucks... hell all harbor freight tools suck as well... you can adjust the pressure on the blaster as well to allow you to stilll use a thicker grit... but you are better off going with a higher grit... the 80 will work on any steel like your frame!
