Open shop

SONICJK

Reminds me of...me No, I'm sure of it. I hate him
Hey guys,
I have set myself up a pretty nice shop lately and figured I'd open it up to anyone thats interested. Bring some beers and we can build some bike shit

Ive got:
Soda blasting setup
Sand blasting setup
Powder coating gear
Welder
Paint booth
HVLP Paint setup
Most any and all necessary tools

Im in Bell Buckle TN about 40 min south of Nashville.

Just thought Id throw that out there if anyone is around and wants to wrench/needs a place to wrench. I've got about 5000 sqft of space so bike/part storage isn't an issue.

Wow! 5,000 sq ft. I am envious. I only have 2,000 sq ft. It's 3 times the size of my shop a year ago, and already I'm bursting at the seams and keeping some stuff outside.

Well I live in my shop, about 2000 sqft of automotive shop, 1000 to live in, and 2000 of wood shop that I work out of :D

Well I'm in Memphis. Might have to take a trip over there when its time to paint. I'm welding right now and it's tight for space when there's 2 bikes and tools in a 20 by 10 shop.

And the play side

Oh yeah, Although the play side has no heat, so im doing my engine rebuild in my kitchen at the moment haha
I run propane heaters out there when im doing something but I figured why bother I have a perfectly good kitchen.

Heat, (and air conditioning,) is an issue for me, too. A couple of front office spaces have heat pump heat/AC, but my shop has nothing except those same little space heaters. My roof has about 1 1/2" of spray foam on the deck, but much of the shop is otherwise uninsulated. When I build my previous shop, I insulated the living shit out of it. The Ceiling was R-30. (10" fiberglass.) I was able to heat the whole space with 3-1,500 W space heaters, and air condition it with a 10,000 BTU window unit.

It's only going up to 21 degrees here today. It's going to be a cold fricken week at my shop. I'll be pressing the powdercoat oven into service as a heating appliance, and a couple of propane heaters I have.

Moral of the story: Insulate your workspace. The more insulation, the better.

Yep, couldn't agree more. It really does make a huge difference.

Nice offer and a decent looking workshop. I'm working out of a 2 car garage built in the 20s or 30s and an old cattle barn from 1925. Except the CL72 is being worked on right now at my blacksmith shop. All painting is done in the driveway or in the turn of the 20th century chicken coop turned storage building.

At least I won't run out of room anytime soon... 54 acres 40 miles north east of Memphis. Lot's of places to add storage buildings.

Blacksmith shop? Very cool.

I have a forge. Still working at acquiring the rest of the stuff I need.

I am about 10 miles from you South Boro/Christiana area. I'd like to get my carbs blasted, maybe shoot my tank and tail.
Unemployed for 8 months, so I am on a strict budget, can supply my own materials.

Here I am building my Cafe Bike in about a 6 foot by 8 foot corner on top of a folding table in my 2 car garage with 2 cars and another motorcycle in it. :)

Was hoping to build an extra garage just so I could have at least a little larger area to work.
But my wife has put a hold on any building for now.

So I continue in my little corner. At least I am in the assembly now so just the small loose ends that slow me down now.
It never fails when you finally get to the assembly part and now you find little nit picky crap you can't live with so you halt everything to change it or clean it up.

But Sonic I am in the Huntsville Alabama area so not too far but just far enough.

Dude! Cars are weather proof. Put that shit outside and get your fucking garage back. It's either that, or risk having your man card revoked. Indoor space is waaay too valuable to keep a fucking car in it.

Haha I know the feeling, I built my last one in a 10x15 garage that was so full of shit I could barely even walk. On nice days I set up a table outside in the driveway and worked from there haha

I prefer to work on my toys outside. Drug the 1998 high bar back out of the barn yesterday to get back on the harness butchering. And realized driving home today from the feed store that "the little green shit box" down at the forge is 50 years old this year... I'm beating my head against a wall to fix a half century old rice bike? No wonder I can't find much for it... and that's probably why the STOCK coils are so crusty now... but they still give out a good spark.... Last engine overhaul (with less than 20 hours on it) was done in 77 or 79... that's older than probably 70% of the site's membership...

Both Honda's are older than me... 2 of the pickups are older than me... 3 of the tractors are older than me... at least my car is my age... 1972 Super Beetle. ::)

Yeah I actually rolled mine outside the other day to mess with some stuff as it was a nice day and I miss working outside.

I need 5000 sq/ft but on Long Island the rent is nuts. I might as well buy a building for $1.5mm instead of renting hahahahahaha
