There has been a bit of an epidemic of shingles, so I wouldn't blame that on the P90X. They have even been pushing an immunization lately.

From my understanding, it's rather hard to have an epidemic of shingles. It's the herpes zoster virus (ie the chicken pox). After you beat it as a child it lays dorment in your nerve tissue. It re-awakens when your body has a compromised immune system. According to the doctor, this was caused by the stress I put my body through during my adventure in p90x.

My doctor warned me about that back in my gym rat days. I was surprised to hear that shingles was the dormant virus of Chicken Pox. He told me that when people get to be 60 years old, they have to get a vaccination or booster to prevent shingles. My doctor contracted shingles as a teen. He was a competitive cyclist back then.

Uniac you are correct. And I don't know how the immunization works (I would assume it is just a chicken pox vaccine). But there is a bunch of cases locally, and they are recommending them.

Extreme, sustained physical exertion of any kind can compromise your immune system - especially so if you're restricting calorific intake and/or not getting the nutrients your body needs.

Zinc is especially good for your immune system (among other things like skin condition and... uh... male libido) and many people don't get anough zinc in their everyday diet. As an aside, this is especially true for Australians as our soil is dinc deficient. I've been on regular zinc supplements for a few years now and I swear by the stuff.

Cheers - boingk

Just wanted to put it out there that if anyone is interested, I actually have electronic copies of all the routines (Chest and Back, Plyometrics, Shoulders and Arms, Yoga x, Legs and Back, Kenpo X, X Stretch, Core Synergistics, Chest, Shoulders and Triceps, Back and Biceps, Cardio X, and Ab Ripper X) as well as the nutrition guide and all the stuff that would normally come with the set. I typically just watched it on the laptop, but it can probably be burned to DVD or just run off a TV if you've got the fancy-hook up. Haha. The files are kinda big... (I don't recall the size of each off the top of my head, but lemme know if you're interested and I can try to find a way to get it to you!)

My ex-Navy seal friend swears by P90X as well, I am planning on starting the program this week.
