Philly throttle anyone?

Anybody else catch Philly Throttle on Discovery channel, just finished watching and it's pretty cool.

I watched a couple of clips on Discovery Channel's website. It looks like a pretty damn cool show!

Makes me miss when Discovery was about science though :(

I recorded it, as I do most shows that I intend to watch, because I tend to fall asleep by 10 PM.

The show wasn't bad, but a lot of manufactured phony drama. It was more about the drama, and Adam Cramer's eccentric personality than it was about motorcycles. The whole story line focuses more on Adam's poor decisions and temper tantrums than about the work he does. His staff even has a word for it? "Mantrums." Can't we have a motorcycle show that focuses on all the great things about motorcycles and the people who ride them? Maybe it's just because I want to see a show about motorcycles instead of about dysfunctional personalities? I wanted to see more detail about how the work is done. Not manufactured drama about self-imposed unrealistic phony deadlines.

If I worked at a place where we had a word for my boss' temper tantrums I would go work at a box factory

Cash flow is always an issue for small businesses. Even long established ones.

I got a 72 hour shut off notice just this week. Got on the phone the next day and paid the bill. :-\ Who has time to keep on top of all that crap all the time? I don't really believe that the electric bill was a real part of the situation. I believe that is was a scripted component of the show. When they showed the 72 hour shut off notice, they didn't show the part of it where the date is. I guarantee you that any small business has a folder full of those notices. It's part of the routine process PECO uses with their business customers.

Adam lives his life in a very unhealthy way. I could never stand having all those people smoking around me all the time. (No one is allowed to smoke inside my shop.) He seems to be unhinged half the time. I heard him reflecting on his failures more than his successes. Looking at the episode guide, it looks like his poor business management skills will be a recurring theme of the show.

I come away from the show with something I can use: "Don't be like him."

Was the norton they were building going for the Manx look? I know the tank is different but at the end it looked like a Manx style.

I watched it last night. Seemed scripted a little to much. Still fun to watch if you are into vintage bikes...

I caught myself saying what an idiot when he almost tipped the matchless when riding it.

Shut off notice was dated 11/20/2012 for being sent.... termination of power is for 11/26/2012

You guys are brutal. Haha... I just saw the replay this afternoon. Its entertainment. Not a hard core documentary film. That shop's been around for a good while. I've heard horror stories from locals about the place and I've heard accolades as well. When it comes down to it, I'd rather watch a bunch of dirty weirdos ham it up in front of the camera while building/working on some real vintage bikes than any of the other bike related shows out there.

What's discovery channel? My garage radio won't pick it up... :)

I kinda dug it. I mean it isn't going to be a documentary about motorcycles, it'll be about people's drama. I can tune that part out and dream about the bikes pretty easily. I have 4 girls in my house!

I think the thing that irritated me the most was EVERY time they TALKED about one of the projects they had to show LIST of costs. LIKE EVERY 2 minutes. I got really tired of seeing how much money they DIDN'T spend in the first few days of work.

Other than that, guy has a nice collection of stuff that I would love to see.

This episode was pretty good. Starting to really like.

Last episode night kind of sucked, honestly it fully sucked, it was mainly focused managing the shop and the BSA restoration was over shadowed by all the drama. Hopefully next episode will be exciting.

You are delusional if you think the show is going to take a turn away from the phoney manufactured drama and become more about motorcycles and motorcyclists. They will continue to focus on Adam's "character flaws," and poor business & time management skills.

This show is not written for us. (And I truly believe that the show is written, staged, and scripted for the most part.)

I caught last night's episode and I'm with AlphaDog. I wish there were a show that was more focused on the actual bikes and building them but I don't think that's a marketable enough concept for the networks. Sure, we'd like it, but the average Joe just wants to watch a bunch of scripted bullshit.
