Polishing a oxidized engine?

srsly though that is spectakular :D i cannot imagine sanding it so even, the blending you did on the edge, without turning it in a lathe

"good morning fuckers and fuckettes...." wow. here is one helluva piece of work. And I thought I was a hillbilly.....

Looks amazing Alpha. Would soda blasting first instead of bead blasting provide a better (easier) surface to start polishing from? Like you say though, there are probably slight scratches and blemishes that you'll want to sand out anyway.

Not a lot of difference between bead blasting and soda blasting for polishing prep. Mostly the difference is that soda washes away with water, and bead is destructive if any gets into moving parts. Soda is single use, because the particles explode on impact with the surface. Glass bead can be recycled many times before it wears out.

Thanks Alpha. I'd like to soda blast my entire engine (it's originally painted black, much of which is flaking off). I want a bare engine with polished side cases. It seems that a lot of the soda blasted parts I've seen retain much of the original polish and look as if they would only need a light sanding with, say, 600, then buffed. I could be wrong in this assumption though. Thanks for the advice. You're results areproof that your system works :)
