Post a pic of your latest purchase

I built a wooden one about a year and a half ago and decided to take the plunge after Xmas on the Harbor Freight one . Once you get it fixed and cleaned up you'll love it

IV got a jacket at a antique store for 50% off. Its a "vintige" meaning that it 10 years old or so not from the 50-60's and who ever had it before me decided to use it as a smoking jacket but for under $25 a deal. Iv already gotten the smoke smell out with some saddle soap and its good as a new.

Also talked to my grandpa and he had a few yards of matching leather from a old char that he let me have, so it looks like i have my new seat!

My wife and daughter bought me a new mesh jacket. ;D

The weeks of triple digit temps here were making me grumpy. Even late in the evening it was too hot for leather.
I figured I would have to upgrade the armor, but what is in there is pretty good.

So angry. I just picked up my hub from the machinst who chewed up my bearing race trying to make a tool for it. A third one trashed. Was pretty upset with the guy and still didn't get my tool made! Really stupid thing was that it turns out the tool that I bought for the rear bearing race WILL ALSO FIT THE FRONT hub if you shave off the pin edges. They look completely different and spaced apart but they're not.

The tool I bought is from "Motion Pro". I got it from "Sirius Consolidate Inc." even though it's not on their website. Chris got it in for me.
It's part #08-0227 XR Seal/Bearing retainer tool. $35.34. Save yourself a pain in the ass and buy this thing. It has all 4 pins on it as opposed to just 2 on an adjustable pin wrench and it's slotted to have a wrench on it.

I did the exact same thing on mine legendary. Sorry you had to go to all of that trouble to get it sorted.

Those silly retaining rings messed me up on my Honda CB hubs too. Didn't know they were locked in place and destroyed one trying to remove it with a big screwdriver and hammer :)

Luckily the rings are available from Honda and not expensive. Not sure what Honda was thinking when they designed the CB front hubs with a bearing 'seat' only on one side.

I just did this last night to a CX500 we are working on in the shop... and i own the tool! it just would not budge... got a new one from bike bandit for $17 shipped... easy fix man it is not just the machinist fault it is a pain in the ass to get out sometimes... like i said i have he tool to remove it, and i hand to use a punch and hammer till i could get it enough out where i can smack the sides to fold it in on itself as to not ruin the threads in the hub... it happens man

I remember mine was the biggest bitch on the planet too. Really weird design too, if you ask me. All will be well with it tho, as they are easy to fix.

If you follow the recommended Honda method and drill into the stakes first, it's REALLY EASY
1/8" drill, 1/8" deep (Honda say 1/4" deep but I find about 1/8" is plenty)

Thanks guys. Misery loves company. lol. I did drill them actually and they still were difficult. Tried heat too.

So are you saying that that race is available through Honda still and the hub isn't useless now? I hope that's what you mean by "rings" cause that would be freakin awesome! That's why I was so upset cause I thought he had screwed another hub on me. If that's the case I'm gonna be bringing coffee/donuts and an apology for over reacting.

Just found it and ordered on bikebandit. Ordered 3 of them! $79 bucks but worth every penny. Thanks again guys.

We have all been there with these old bikes, I had to drill out a stripped fork top plug and thought, oh well I'll get hosed at the dealer and get a new one, then found out they had been discontinued for the GL1000 since the mid 90's and flipped out, then Tim found me a set and I found a set and now have spares so it worked out but I hate those moments.

CJHusband - which one?

Micrometers were bought in Oz so prices won't be relevant for US of A.
You guys can probably buy them waaaay cheaper!
