Post a pic of your motorcycle as it sits

Fired up the H1 for the first time today.

She needs some jets.

I put in 102.5 mains IIRC based on the following post from one of the triple forums. The pilots are stock #30. I can’t remember what I set the float level too but I think it’s off some. Screws should be 1.5 turns out too.

I've seen the same info on some of the forums. Seems to be the go to with chambers and Uni's. Also a lot of folks saying the stock carbs are quite finicky, swap them out for a set of VM34's, and be done with that.

Why do I recall all sorts of issues with Wirges pipes? I think it was related to the internal baffle design. Are those pipes Wirges or J&R?

Carbs are just an OEM VM30 aren't they? Ask John Aylor what works best on an H1. He should be able to get you in the ballpark

Project 550 , which may become Project 600...., is progressing

today i sorted the electrics, all sorts of issues including a faulty rear bulb that glowed full power even when on ‘sidelight’ setting
Removed the us spec bleeper and ‘indicators as sidelights’ wiring.
cleaned the seat, which is very serviceable
stripped of the exhaust, original end can needs some work but the headers are spectacular, one small scratch and no rust

still working on un-siezing the engine.....

That's living the good life right there.

I just noticed that I have the same headlight bracket you're using, and almost the same headlight too (mine doesn't have the indicator lights, just high and low beam). So far I've only mocked it up, but did you find there was enough room inside the bucket for all the wiring?

Yes I had enough for all the wiring, sorry it took so long for me to reply.

Good progress on Project 550 this weekend :

test fit of twin disk conversion
re-loomed the repaired wiring
repainted callipers and disk centres
rebuit the forks

bike had a sit in the sunshine next to an appropriate plant.....

I love these Hondas, so much potential for a great Cafe Racer!

Damn, that is pretty, the tank/seat combination and that paint, mmmmm! Flat bars (or drag bars) don't seem popular now but they are a great compromise between drop bars and the stupid high bars that a lot of Japanese bikes came to North America with.

@Sderbyshire What are the pipes off ? I like the way they sweep across like the 400 Four
Hi Bodd
that is the original CB550F exhaust, i’ve never seen one before !
the four sweepy pipes are virtually as new, the end can has a bit of rust but only underneath so i’m hoping to save it.

today i built up a set of refurbished carbs from two sets, hope to test them tomorrow
am unsure if the ignition system will work....

Yes , thats the place.
i’m very pleased with the 550, and ‘Freddy’ dealt professionally with the one issue i had.
